MB Riptides Successful at State Championships The 2009 SC Swimming Long-course State Championships was held the weekend of July 23-26 at the Augusta Aquatics Center, Augusta, GA. The Myrtle Beach Riptides swimming team not only participated in the event, but co-hosted the meet as well. Thirteen members of the Riptides competed in the event. At meet’s end, the girls had placed 5th, the boys had placed 13th and the team finished 9th overall. Riptides Swimming Team Busy in Summer The Myrtle Beach Riptides swimming team has had a busy summer thus far, with still more on the horizon. Members of the youth-based swimming program continue to train while many area children enjoy a summer break. Myrtle Beach Swimmers Travel to Daytona Beach Six swimmers from the locally based Myrtle Beach Riptides swimming team traveled to Daytona Beach, FL for a training trip and swimming meet June 17-21, 2009. 39th Annual Junior Jaguar Invite The second long-course meet of the season was the ASL Junior Jaguar Invite, May 8-10, in Augusta, GA. Eight Riptides' swimmers travelled to Augusta for the event. This meet was a huge improvement over the SMRT LC Invite just two weeks earlier. When all was said and done, the Riptides brought home 12 first-place medals and 40 personal best times. Eleven Riptides swimmers traveled to Charleston to kick of the 2009 long-course season. The weather at the SMRT Long-course Invite was perfect and swimming was just as good. All told, the Riptides accounted for 16 event wins and 23 personal best times. Chad Bateson was a perfect 5-for-5 best times and swam to eight Top-6 finishes. Congratulations to Megan Kingsley for earning selection to the 2009 USA-S Southern Zone Select Camp. Megan joins Lauren Campbell (2008) as the second swimmer from Myrtle Beach to earn such recognition. The camp will take place May 21-24 at the University of Louisville, KY. Megan is just one of 224 swimmers from around the nation to be selected; girls must be aged 12-13 and boys 13-14. Selection is based on fastest time in an IMX event or highest score in IMX.
