The Piranha Swim Team will begin the 2011-2012 season today, Monday August 29. The week will start out with a quick introduction into the skills and drills associated with the Piranha Team and Coach Adam's expertice with a "clinic" for the first part of each practice this week. The summer is coming to a close and the new school year is upon us all here in the desert. The Piranha Swim Team will be taking this upcoming week to plan and prepare for the new season and to allow our coaches a chance to rejuvenate for a big season ahead. On the last morning of the USA Junior National championships in Palo Alto, Ca, Indira swam a personal best in the 50M Free in a time of 26.70 which placed her into the consolation heat for tonights finals. She is looking to better that time in order to attain the Olympic Trial cut of 26.39 and score points for the team. Earlier in the week, Adam Shaw swam the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:28.28. Two Piranhas are in Palo Alto on the campus of Stanford to compete in the USA swimming junior nationals. Swimmers from all over the country come to compete for national recognition. Today, Adam Shaw races the 200 Breaststroke. The top 30 athletes get to return at night in the finals. Indira swims the 100 Freestyle on Tuesday, 200 Free on Thursday and the 50 Free on Friday. Adam will be time trialing many events during the week. We hope to see many great swims at this highly competitive event.
In the next two weeks, the Piranhas will have athletes competing in high level national/international meets. Kat Wickham and Shelby Andrade were both selected to the North American Challenge Cup in Mexico. They will be competing all week for the Southern California team versus Canada, Mexico and Northern California. The following week the Piranhas have two swimmers competing at the USA Swimming Junior National Championships in Palo Alto. The Piranhas swim team had a strong finals session on the final day of individual competition. The night began with the 5-10 100 Breast with Kelli and Desiree placing 5th (1:34.39) and 8th (1:37.00). The 15-18 200 Breast had Alexa getting 12th (2:56.17) and Adam winning the mens event (2:24.45) and getting the Junior National time standard; and having Bryce placing 15th (2:40.35). The Piranhas swim team had another strong morning of Preliminaries. The meet began with the 5-10 100 Breast with Kelli and Desiree placing in the top 8, 5th (1:37.79) and 8th (1:39.48). The 15-18 200 Breast had Alexa getting 12th (2:58.52) and Adam and Bryce placing with 2nd (2:31.55) and 15th (2:42.10). In the backstroke, 5-10 we had Kelli getting 9th (:41.45) in the 50 back.
