TIDE Grants

Through its Open Doors program, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads offers financial assistance to families in need. There is an application process for subsidies to help pay for YMCA membership. You can find more Open Doors financial information is available.

TIDE Swimming extends grants to families who qualify for the YMCA's Open Doors program by matching the percentage discount the family receives on their YMCA membership dues. An Open Doors swimmer's monthly swimming dues installment payments will be reduced by the same percentage discount that the YMCA uses to reduce the cost of the family or swimmer's YMCA membership. Registration and meet fees are not discounted.

USA Swimming Athlete Outreach Program

To assist USA Swimming in creating a culture of inclusion and opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds, including, but not limited to, race, age, income, ethnicity, religion, gender, and sexual orientation.

Program Offered by Virginia Swimming

Outreach Membership: Outreach membership offers qualified individuals the opportunity to become a USA Swimming year-round athlete member at a reduced fee.  The national fee for outreach membership is $5.00.  Virginia Swimming has waived its fee.  Outreach membership also allows for reimbursement of individual event meet fees paid on behalf of participating athletes in Virginia Swimming Sanctioned meets.

The necessary documentation to qualify for Virginia Swimming's Athlete Outreach program must be sent to [email protected].  When eligibility is verified by TIDE, the information will be sent to Virginia Swimming's Registration Chair. Eligibility for the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program, Medicaid or SNAP qualifies an athlete for Virginia Swimming's Athlete Outreach Program.
