Peterborough – Thirty-Two athletes from the Belleville Youth Swim Team competed at Trent University over the weekend.  The team managed to achieve 80 percent best times and place third overall behind Barrie and Peterborough.  They finished ahead of teams from Orillia, Lindsay, Picton and Port Hope.  It was their first meet of the new swim season and training out of the brand new 8-lane aquatic centre helped out tremendously. There was some crazy fast swimming today. Way too many incredible individual performances to list. Tons of best times in the morning and almost all best times in the afternoon. Such a wonderful group of athletes. Going into finals, BYST pretty much had an athlete in every race. Relays were exceptionally fast and the team placed top three numerous times. Way to go BYST!!!

Three athletes chose to race the grueling 800m freestyle. All three of them swam hard and earned best times. Stephanie Cairns competed first an took off six seconds, clocking in at 10:19 which was not only faster than the Age Group Championship per-requisite, but she also qualified for Ontario Festival. Katelyn Cairns raced next and dropped over 20 seconds, coming in at 10:49. Chances are that she will drop an additional 20 seconds next time she swims it by making a slight technical adjustment.
