Nothing has a greater influence on the quality of children's organized sports experience than the excellence of the coaching.
Club Warriors' coaching staff, under the direction of Head Coach Nandi Kormendi, is comprised of professionally trained, experienced and dedicated staff members. As member coaches in the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association, they have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in Canada. Club Warriors' coaching staff provides the assurance that the time your children spend in swimming will be quality time.
Nandi Kormendi
Head CoachCoach Nandi Kormendi has been involved with swimming all his life. He coached part-time through high-school and university, then landed his first full time coaching position after graduating. Most recently Nandi was assistant Head Coach of MSSAC (12 years) and prior to that Head Coach of ROW/WLU.
He has been part of Canada’s National Team Staff at the World Aquatic Championships (Barcelona), Pan Pacific Championships (Yokahama), FINA World Cup (Edmonton, Imperia and Paris) as well as Junior Pan Pac Staff. From these meets his swimmers came home with 5 International Medals.
Coach Nandi has also been a part of many National Team training camps, and was selected to Alberta’s Canada Games Team. His top athletes have included Mike Brown (Canadian Record Holder, 3x National Champion and 4x International and 10x National medallist), Jillian Tyler (National Champion, National Record Relay Team, 5x National Medallist), and Pascal Wollach (National medallist). Nandi’s swimmers have set 15 Provincial Records, 5 National Age Group Records and 4 National Records.
Coach Nandi believes in the all-around development of the athlete technically and physically, and that creating great athletes is only a part of developing young men and women into great people.
Nandi is excited to be working with Club Warriors to continue their journey of success!
Wendy Prentice
Assistant Head Coach / Junior Elite CoachCoach Wendy is a certified Level 2 swim coach, and has been coaching in various roles for over 30 years. She has coached early development up to CJC level swimmers over the last 8 years as an Age Group Coach both at the Mississauga Aquatic Club and PSW in BC with many provincial champions. She had completed multiple coaching initiatives, programs and workshops over the last 6 years, working with internationally respected coaches.
Personal swimming experience includes swimming for the University of Ottawa and then Masters. Wendy has a passion for swimming both on the deck as a coach and in the water as a swimmer. She believes swimming has the power to develop a young person both physically and mentally. The work ethic, goal setting and resilience they learn from swimming stays with them in university and through adulthood, shaping the people they ultimately become.
Rushi Patel
Senior Group CoachRushi has a background in aquatics coaching, operation management, and continuous improvement. Currently, pursuing post-graduation in automation management at Conestoga College, Rushi combines analytical skills with a passion for fostering the development of young swimmers.
Rushi has coached athletes for district and provincial championships back in India, for Swimming and Water polo. He is also having 8 years of sea swimming background. His coaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of teamwork, discipline, and personal growth, aiming to inspire swimmers to reach their full potential both in and out of the water.
His leadership experience includes serving in military youth organization where he empowered junior cadets through training and community service initiatives. He loves to do painting and exploring nature during his free time. He is excited to bring his expertise and enthusiasm to CW Swimming, helping the next generation of athletes thrive.
Allison Meklensek
Head Development Coach / Age Group 3 CoachAllison has been part of the competitive swimming world for more than 30 years, starting as a swimmer and then a coach. Currently, Allison works with and motivates children daily as a teacher and as a coach at her second home, the pool! In addition to coaching, Allison is also overseeing the Age Group and Novice programs and coaches as the Head Development Coach at CW.
Allison's career began in Waterloo as both a club and university swimmer and coach. She followed swimming to work at the Swim Ontario office and began coaching Regional and Provincial age group swimmers in Etobicoke. She also helped develop swimmers and coaches in Oakville heading up their Novice programs. She has been chosen to coach on Provincial Tour teams and speak to young coaches to share her knowledge.
Allison splits her time between teaching, coaching and being a swim mom to her own daughters.
Daniel Demczuk
Age Group 3 Development CoachDaniel is a dedicated coach who focuses on building strong technical foundations for developing swimmers. With a background in competitive swimming and experience mentoring young athletes, he works to create a supportive and motivating environment that helps swimmers achieve their goals while enjoying the sport.
Caraline Girouard
Age Group 2 CoachCaraline has been a swimmer and a coach for most of her life and joined Club Warriors in 2023. She assisted with groups across all ages before settling in with AG2.
Caraline loves a high-energy and driven group! She has experience with everything from intro lessons to competitive training and championship meets to open water lifesaving. She has been coaching for nearly 10 years and loves to help a group develop into strong swimmers, supportive teammates, and resilient people.
Claire Schmidt
Age Group 2 Development CoachClaire has been a part of Club Warriors since 2014. She began her journey with the club as a young swimmer and started volunteering with the younger groups which grew her love for coaching.
For her last two years as a swimmer, Claire has been assistant coaching AG1, which allowed her to strengthen her skills and learn new coaching strategies.
She is excited to use her experiences and skills learnt with the club to teach her swimmers while they improve their skills and have lots of fun!
Lexi Meklensek
Age Group 1 CoachLexi has been swimming for the better part of 16 years. Having joined Club Warriors during its first year in 2008, she has competed at regional, provincial, and national levels. She then went on to swim for the Western Mustangs for the next four years.
Lexi brings over 14 years of coaching experience to Warriors. She got her coaching start back in the club in 2010 in the Intro program and shortly moved over to Novice. Following that, during university, she coached at both the London Aquatic Club and Excel Swim School. Throughout her summers she coached and led a swim program in Montreal. Lexi has now been back at Warriors for the past five years and is excited for this upcoming season. Let's go Warriors!
Jack Hawkins
Fitness & Technique CoachJack started competitive swimming 11 years ago for the Kingston Blue Marlins before switching to the Kingston Sharks for a few years. Unfortunately after an injury to his knee he had to end his swim career early.
After taking some time off from swimming he moved into being an assistant coach at Sharks until he ended up in Waterloo for his bachelors in Kinesiology, where after watching the CW atmosphere he has come back to coaching.
He is looking forward to sharing his interest in exercise and well-being to all of the swimmers he coaches!
Caity Dyck
Novice 2 Lead CoachCoach Caity has spent her whole life around pools, competing with various clubs in Ontario before transitioning to Triathlons and marathons in university!
She was a Masters Swim and Triathlon Coach at the YMCA for five years before joining the Club Warriors coaching staff. She is excited to be back on the deck with kids again!
Gabi Gurfinkel
Novice 1 Lead CoachCoach Gabi has been part of Club Warriors since 2016, beginning as a swimmer before moving into volunteering and coaching.
She first discovered her love for coaching while helping with the youngest groups, and has since worked with both Novice and AG1, building her skills and experience along the way.
This is now her fifth year coaching with CW, and she is excited to continue sharing her passion for swimming while helping swimmers build their skills and confidence in the water.
Laura Hewitson
Novice 1 Lead CoachLaura has been a key figure in aquatics for nearly 25 years, dedicating much of her time to training and inspiring the next generation of lifeguards and instructors, ensuring they are well-equipped to keep others safe in, on, and around the water.
Joining Club Warriors in 2023, she brings her passion and experience to the role of Novice 1 coach, eager to help young swimmers excel and dive into the world of competitive swimming.
Aleesha Tejani
INTRO Program Lead CoachAleesha has swum competitively for many years, most recently with OAK and currently with the WLU Varsity team.
Aleesha is in her second year of coaching with CW and takes the reign of the INTRO Program this season. She is looking forward to another great season with our youngest swimmers!
