Jessica Dreghici Wows at 2022 Eastern Nationals & Eleven Warriors Qualify
Fourteen-year-old Jessica Dreghici made Club Warriors proud at the 2022 Eastern Canadian Swimming Championships. This 4-day event took place from April 21st through April 24th in Pointe-Claire, QC and was the first Easterns held since 2019. Jessica competed in all the Freestyle events this year and set her sights on improving on or making the time standards as a 15-year-old for the summer Canadian Junior Championships (CJC), the highest level of competition for 18 and Under Canadians.
Jessica kicked off Day 1 with a B-Final qualifying swim in the 200 Free. She would later finish 12th overall with a personal best time of 2:10.67. In the 800 Free, Jessica chipped 3.26s off her entry time to grab 5th place, making the cut for the CJC in this event!
Jessica’s momentum continued on Day 2 with the 100 Free. A PB in the prelims followed by a sub-one-minute 12th place finals got the job done and added another event for her for the CJC.
In the 400 Free on Day 3, Jessica came 6th overall improving on her CJC-qualified personal best time by .44 seconds.
On Day 4, Jessica capped the weekend with two strong races. She went sub-28s in the 50 Free which tied her for the last 20th spot in the Finals. She improved her time by .05 seconds in the Swim Off but was edged out by just 0.4 seconds.
Jessica would save the best for last with her 1500 Free. Capturing 5th overall and clocking in at 18:03.58, she would shatter her own club record set just 2 weeks ago and crush the CJC and Canadian Trials Junior time standards.
Way to go, Jessie!
Although only Jessica competed at last weekend's event, Club Warriors would like to give a big shout out to all eleven swimmers who made qualifying times for the Eastern Nationals this year:
