Rapids Swim Club Host LMR Swimming Championships February 29, 2012                 The Richmond Rapids Swim Club hosted the LMR swimming championships over the weekend at Watermania Aquatics Centre.  With over 400 swimmers in attendance there was lots of fierce competition in the pool.                                 The meet, geared as a stepping stone to provincial level competitions allows swimmers to compete at a championship level.  The hope is to acquire enough racing experience to move to the provincial arena.  The club had 4 new BC AA championship qualifiers.   The AA standard...

  Rapids’ Dekker Wins Gold at Western Canadian Championships February 24, 2012                 The Speedo Western Canadian Championships were held in Winnipeg, Manitoba last weekend with the best swimmers in the western provinces attending.  For Nicolaas Dekker (16) it was his time to shine on the national stage.  Dekker walked away with two gold medals in the 100 and 200 butterfly, a silver in the 100 backstroke and a bronze in the 50 butterfly.                 This was a huge step in the right direction for the young Rapid swimmer whose...

Members of the PAG, Regional and ND groups stepped up to race this Friday evening.  This was an unsanctioned event done during practice and as a result none of the times here are valid.  It was a great opportunity for swimmers to get on the blocks and see how they were doing.  New techniques and tactics were tried and the swimmers had a great opportunity to sharpen up going into Championship month. February 16-19, 2012 - Winnipeg, MB About the Speedo Western Championships The Speedo Western Championships brings together a great mix of Canada’s senior, youth and junior swimmers.  This regional competition is held annually in February in various cities throughout Western Canada and is held on the same weekend as the Speedo Eastern Championships. BC AA Champs Great Success for Rapids Swimmers February 15, 2012                 For Richmond Rapids swimmers this weekend culminated 5 months’ worth of training and preparation.  The BC AA Championships were held at the Chilliwack Leisure Centre this past weekend.  Three hundred and sixty swimmers from all over the province attended the meet.  Competition was fast and furious with swimmers achieving new personal bests, higher standards and of course bragging rights on the podium.                  Coach Alex Pettifer was extremely happy with the performances of her athletes.   She believes the...
