Rodney Pilman

Head Coach & National Coach

Coach Rodney has been a part of RAA since 2007 starting as an assistant coach. Rodney became the Head Coach of RAA in 2009 and held that position until 2014 when he left to finish his master’s degree. Rodney returned to RAA as the Head Coach in January 2017. During his time as the Head Coach, RAA has been a consistent Top 10 Finisher at SCS Championship Meets, while also helping dozens of swimmers to continue to swim at the College level. Since 2009, RAA team accomplishments include:

  • Bronze Medal Team 2010, 2024
  • Silver Medal Team 2019,2020,2021

  • 2 Swimmers qualified for 2020 Olympic Trails in 6 events

  • Multiple swimmer’s final at Junior and Senior Nationals

  • Over 25 swimmers qualified for Junior Nationals

  • Multiple top 10 team finishes at Futures

  • Multiple top 5 team finishes at Sectionals

  • Multiple top 3 team finishes at Junior Olympics

Rodney’s coaching experience prior and during his time at RAA includes:

  • Head Senior Coach at Wave Aquatics Seattle WA 2016

  • Head Coach at North High School 2012-16, winning two CIF team championships

  • Assistant Coach at California Baptist University 2005-2007, 2009-2010 and 2017-2019

  • Head Boys Coach at Santiago High School 2007-2010

Rodney places great emphasis on team building, personal responsibility, and a positive team atmosphere. As a swimmer Rodney was a multiple All-American at California Baptist University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Education. 


 

Brian Haile

Bryan has been involved in competitive swimming since the age of seven. He was a four-time MVP while attending Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, California.

 

During his college career at California Baptist University, Bryan’s accomplishments in the sport of swimming include being a four-time Central California Conference Champion (100 Breast), two-time Champion at the 2008 PCSC Invitational Pentathlon, NAIArecord holder in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke in 2009. Most recently, Bryan finished 10th in the 2010 AT & T Short Course National Championships in the Men’s 100 & 200 Breaststroke.

 

RAA has the wonderful opportunity of having swimmers learn from the wealth of aquatic knowledge that Coach Bryan brings to the team. By using new and innovative teaching techniques to help hone swimmers skills in and out of the water, Coach Bryan helps RAA swimmers attain their highest potential.



   

Mirai Adams

National Prep Coach

Coach Mirai recently joined the RAA coaching staff and brings with her years of swimming and coaching experience. Prior to RAA Mirai coached locally with great success. Mirai has been able to help her swimmers reach age group championship meets, SCS All-Star meets and national rankings.

As a swimmer Mirai was a very successful age group swimmer. Mirai graduated from Santiago High School where she broke several school records and then continued her swimming career at the University of California, San Diego.


 

Justin Gomez

Age Group 1, Senior Development & Head Masters Coach

Coach Justin joined the RAA coaching staff in 2017. Justin served as the head summer swim coach for RAA for two years. Over the past few years, Justin also helped coach with a variety of groups at RAA working with swimmers of all ages and abilities. Justin is currently the primary coach for Senior Development. Justin has also been the Varsity swim coach at North High School since 2018.

As a swimmer, Justin was a 6 time CIF Finalist in the 50 Free and 100 Free for North High School. Justin competed for RCC and was part of the 400 Free Relay time that claimed the 2019 State Title. Justin was also a water polo and swim team captain for North High School. Justin is an Eagle Scout, biology major and soon to be EMT.


 

Brandie Kaufman

Age Group 2 &  Dolphin 1 Coach

Coach Brandie has been a part of Riverside Aquatics for over four years. Brandie first started as a Master's swimmer. Brandie began teaching swim lessons for RAA in 2019 and soon became a substitute coach working with many of the younger and beginning swimmers. For the past year, Brandie has been the Dolphin's coach and has helped with Age Group and Pre-Comp. Brandie brings a great deal of knowledge, experience as well as enthusiasm to her coaching.

Brandie was born and raised in Riverside and growing up swam on Tidal Waves for many years. Brandie attended the University of California in Riverside and graduated with a B. A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in History and a Minor in Dance Form.  Brandie also worked for many years as a substitute teacher for Riverside Unified School District.  In her spare time, she loves pursuing her passion for photography. 


 

Ale Rocha

Pre Competitive & Dolphin 2 Coach

Coach Ale joined Riverside Aquatics Association coaching staff in 2021.  Prior to that Ale has worked as a Summer Swim Instructor for Riverside Aquatics Association since 2015 at Martin Luther King High School. Coach Ale began her swimming carrier at the age of 3, when she joined the Riverside City Parks and Recreation swim lessons program.  When Ale turned 8 she joined RAA competed competitively until she was 18 years old.  Coach Ale attended Poly High School where she swam all four years.  Coach Ale was a CIF qualifier several times in many events.  Her favorite event is the 500 Freestyle and the 200 Breaststroke.  Currently, Coach Ale is a student studying film at Riverside City College.


 

Alicia Larios

Pre Competitive & Dolphin 3 Coach

Coach Alicia joined Riverside Aquatics Association’s coaching staff in 2021. Before that Alicia has been a part of RAA for more than 14 years as a swim parent. As a swim mom, she has done many volunteering positions from group coordinator to helping organize team events such as a pancake breakfast, Lap-a-ton to timing in CIF’s and many other team events. During the last five years that her daughter swam, she was in charge of hospitality at Jo’s and home meets for the last five years. She has also worked as a swim instructor for RAA summer swim lessons since 2017. She really enjoys teaching little kids how to start swimming. She has been a part of RAA’s Master's group since 2015. Swimming with RAA’s Masters helped her discover her passion for swimming.

 

 

 

Lauri Jones

Substitute Coach

Before coaching in Southern California Lauri coached for over 10 years in Wisconsin and Illinois. Lauri began coaching in Southern California at Riverside Aquatics Association (RAA) where she coached here from 2009 - 2013. From 2013 -2018 she coached at Redlands Swim Team. Serving as head coach from 2015 -2017. Lauri served as the 11-15 Gold coach at Temecula Swim Club (TMEC) from 2018-2021. She has also coached High School swim at Martin Luther King High School in riverside from 2010-2014 and at Redlands High School from 2015-2017. 

While in college Lauri worked as the Aquatics Director/ Pool manager at the Municipal pool in her hometown in Wisconsin.  Lauri has designed and implemented Learn to Swim programs that are currently being used in multiple locations in Southern California and in the Midwest.  

Lauri swam competitively for 12 years including in college.   While in college Lauri earned a degree in Social Work with minors in coaching and psychology.  

In her time as a coach, Lauri has coached multiple swimmers to the National top 10 rankings.  Lauri has earned an ASCA level 4 certification.

Lauri Is the mother of 3 adult children all of whom previously swam competitively at RAA. 

Lauri enjoys being able to teach life skills through athletics.  She believes in cultivating self-esteem by recognizing and fostering individual strengths and celebrating personal differences.
