Mike grew up in Mesa, AZ with Mesa Aquatics from the age of 6 through high school. During that time, he achieved several Junior and Senior National cuts, was fortunate enough to represent the US on the National Junior Team in 1989 and competed at the US Open. After high school, Mike swam for the University of Arizona in the early 90s and competed at the NCAA championships each of the 4 years he was there. After college, he coached summer league for two summers, with kids aged 6-18. His first year round coaching position was in Glendale, AZ with the Swimming Gauchos where he coached the 10 and under group. After that, he moved to Tucson and was the Head Age Group Coach for Hillenbrand Aquatics and coached 9-14 year olds for 4 years. He then moved to Colorado and was the head coach of Greeley Swim Club for 4 years. Mike’s coaching philosophy is quality work with a strong focus on technique, as well as having fun.
