Wheat Ridge Rec Center
Swimmers must be able to swim a 25 of freestyle and backstroke as a 10&U to be eligible for the team at Wheat Ridge. Swimmers 11 and older must have skills in all 4 strokes and some aerobic ability.
Groups are progressive and build upon each other depending on ability and goals. There are requirements for admittance into groups.
PRE COMPETITIVE GROUPS
Pre competitive groups have competition available to them but not required. These groups are best for swimmers who do not have the skills to be on the competitive team yet or the multi sport swimmer who doesn't have weekend time to spend at a swim meet, or the non competitive swimmer.
WR Future Stars
- Perfect for a 6-8 year old swimmer who has experience with swim meets and is excited to learn more.
*Minimum requirements:
- 25 freestyle & backstroke
- Fundamentals of butterfly and breaststroke
- Basic understanding of starts and turns
- Ability to listen and try within a group setting
- Regular practice attendance
- FOCUS: positive introduction to competitive swimming experience including race day conduct: food, hydration, communication with coaches, race preparation and early stages of self-evaluation.
- GOAL: Acquiring basic comprehension of skills needed to participate in the swim meet setting as a positive teammate and member of the swimming community.

WR Rock Stars

COMPETITIVE GROUPS
The competitive groups require competition. Swimmers must participate in 2 in season meets and the fastest in state championship meet at the end of the season. Swimmers who cannot meet this standard may swim with the team in the pre competitive groups where competition is not required.
WR Gold
- Must meet time standards, test set and all basic skills. Focused on developing competitive skills : positive communication, coachability, basic skill development, early level understanding of race strategy and early stages of self-advocacy (like choosing events to swim in the next meet or asking a coach to help with a turn, etc.)
- 8 and younger swimmers focused on becoming competitive swimmers.
*Minimum requirements:
- Proficient in all 4 competitive strokes
- Beginning to master starts and turns
- Ability to listen and try within a group setting
- Regular practice attendance

WR Red
- Must meet time standards, test set and all basic skills (all 4 competitive strokes). Focused on developing competitive skills : positive communication, coachability, beginning to understand different race strategies, and developing mindset skills.
- 9-10 year olds who have attended a Colorado Swimming (CSI) STATE Meet or have earned those Qualifying Times.

- 11-12 year olds
- Must meet time standards, test set and all basic skills.
- Focused on developing higher level competitive skills : positive communication, coachability, smart race strategy, goal setting mindset, and regular application of smart race strategy. Willingness to try different strategies, techniques and approaches throughout the season (coachability).

WR Black
- Committed swimmers 13-16 year olds with STATE Level** swimming or have summer club STATE times and are committed to meeting the MINIMUM requirements listed below.
- Must Attend 4 practices per week.
- Must meet time standards, test set and all basic skills.
- Focused on developing higher level competitive skills : positive communication, coachability, smart race strategy, goal-setting mindset, and regular application of smart race strategy. Willingness to try different strategies, techniques and approaches throughout the season (coachability).
