Volunteer opportunity for swimmers

President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Program

North Jeffco Swim team offers an exciting opportunity for swimmers through the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) program.

In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to act, too.

Led by the AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, this program allows Certifying Organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers.  NJST is proud to be a Certifying Organization for the PVSA program.

Participants in the program must volunteer time and report eligible service on the following form: PVSA Reporting Form.

NJST will keep track of volunteer hours over a 12-month period and when milestone hours are met, the volunteer will receive a certificate, medallion, and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States.

NJST’s volunteer service program is meant to encourage volunteer efforts around swimming.  Examples of volunteer activities include serving as timers or runners during swim meets, pairing up with a younger swimmer to mentor and help during meets, developing instructional swim meet videos, or even offering private swim lessons for younger swimmers – the possibilities are endless!

For our swimmers, the PVSA is a great program that recognizes and encourages a “serve others” mindset.  The program is consistent with NJST’s mission to promote personal health, character, and values in a fun and rewarding atmosphere.  The volunteer mindset our swimmers develop from the PVSA program puts them on a path to success in life.  And because of the prestige, the PVSA is also a great way for our swimmers to stand out in college applications and resumes – this is recognition that will follow volunteers for the rest of their lives.

Although the initial focus is to encourage our swimmers to embrace volunteerism and to give back to their communities, everyone is encouraged to participate.  Contact your group coach or a board member for more details.
