Donnie was asked to join the Board of The American Swimming Coaches Association. This is quite an honor for the OA staff and for the entire organization. He will serve along side the best coaches in the country. Ronnie was asked to speak to the Indiana coaches association on team culture and team character.
On Sunday, September 9th Orinda Aquatics swimmers participated in the annual RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim, a challenging and prestigious international open water event. Participants swam one nautical mile from Angel Island to Tiburon. This year, the water was a relatively balmy 60 degrees, slightly warmer than last year’s 58 degree water. Orinda Aquatics has partnered with the Orinda Foundation and the NorCal Kids Triathlon again this year. We have done this for several reasons: to support the Foundation and the community, to make further inroads into the community from a marketing and an awareness perspective, to diversify our competitive opportunities, to introduce our athletes to triathlons, and to kick off our 2012 season. Five swimmers competed in the fastest 18 & Under meet in the nation this week, at the USA Swimming Junior National Championships. Swimmers competing were Steven Stumph, Sven Campbell, Albert Miao, Robbie Ashby, and Talbot Jacobs. Orinda Aquatics finished third overall in the Men's Division with Stumph and Campbell finishing 2nd and 3rd in the Men's High Point! This is the best national finish in OA history.
OA took nearly 50 swimmers to Clovis to compete in the long course USA Swimming Western Zone Championships and finished 5th in the 100 team meet which included clubs from the western United States.
Friday, July 27, Orinda Aquatics swimmers took time out of their day to help teach under privileged/at-risk kids the basics of swimming.74 kids and 20 staff from Harbor House, Oakland arrived by bus at the Soda Center to spend their “Friday Field Trip” with OA.Approximately 30 OA swimmers signed on for this amazing opportunity, to not only teach basic swimming skills, but also develop a relationship with the kids from Harbor House. 2011-12 Scholastic All America Awards Each year the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) honors the collegiate teams which have achieved a 3.0 GPA (Fall + Winter/Spring) and individual scholar athletes who have both achieved a 3.5 GPA (in season) and qualified for their respective National Championship.
