Swim Team Groups

The first part of the season is devoted to conditioning and technique. Swimmers will be divided into groups
based on skill and age.

Minnows:
This is the novice group, consisting of our newest and youngest swimmers. Ages can range from 5 to 9 years old. These swimmers may not know all four competitive strokes, but are water-safe for at least the width of the pool at the beginning of the season. These swimmers will improve and should be able to swim freestyle for the length of the pool (25 yards, with good side breathing). By June 6th, Minnows must be able to swim the length of the pool.

Porpoises:
This group is more advanced than the Minnows, but the swimmers are still relatively new to swimming. They will range in age from about 7 to 9 years old. Some swimmers may not be proficient in all 4 strokes, but should be able to follow simple instructions on technique. They may have a year or two of FPCC swimming experience.

Dolphins:
This group is proficient in all four competitive strokes, and they are able to handle more yardage. They will
range from about 9 to 13 years old, depending on ability.

Sharks:
This is the most senior group. Swimmers are experienced and proficient in all four competitive strokes, and the workouts are significantly more intense than those of the Dolphins group. They range in age from about 11 to 18, depending on ability. During the team season, they should be team leaders. They often aid younger swimmers at meets or other team events.
