This past week several Piranha trained swimmers traveled to Riverside to compete in the 2013 Southern Section CIF Championships. Piranha High School swimmers participated in Division 2 and Division 4 prelims and finals. The first event of the day at Division 2 finals saw the team of Faith Travis, Alexa Wasserman, Sophie MacEwen, and Kat Wickham representing Palm Springs High School, win the CIF Championship in a very close race. Our Piranha swimmers that represented their High Schools last week at the De Anza and DVL Championships did an outstanding job of making both their High Schools and the Piranha Swim Team proud. Josh Purificacion, a Freshman at Shadow Hills and one of Coach Alicia's Indio swimmers, was our outstanding De Anza League swimmer. Josh earned a third place finish in both the 200 IM and 100 breast. Beginning the week of April 29th the Piranha Masters team will be expanding and adding in a Noon workout on Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays in Palm Springs. A great opportunity for those of you looking to get in a workout during your lunch break. Come try it for free that first week. Who joins a Masters Team? Anyone 18 or older, any level of swimmer. Our morning workouts at the Palm Desert Aquatics Center are going to change beginning the week of 3/25. Mornings will now be on Wednesday and Friday mornings 5:30 to 7am, at PDAC and still long course, instead of Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Masters in Palm Springs are still Monday through friday 5:30 to 7am. We appreciate the PDAC staff and how well they have worked with us to ensure Long Course pool time for our Masters and Senior groups in Palm Desert.
On Wednesday 3/13 there will be a Pizza Party at the Indio Round Table 81637 Highway 111 at 5:30pm instead of practice in Indio. Anyone can attend. Families will purchase their own Pizza and drinks, desert will be provided. A portion of the purchases will go back to the team. It will be a great opportunity for our Indio families to have some fun away from the pool, get to know each other better, and celebrate the great accomplishments and growth we have seen as a team in that area.
We are happy to announce our new Indio schedule seen bellow. From March through May we will be splitting time between Indio High School and Shadow Hills High School with the posibility of being in Shadow Hills fulltime beginning in June. Close to 50 members of the Piranha Swim Team traveled to Redlands last weekend to compete in the Eastern Committee Championships "JO Max" Meet. With over 90% of all our swims beating previous best times, this was by far our best meet in a long time in terms of the quality of our swimming as a team. Great job Piranha Swimmers and Coaches. The Piranha 14 and under Junior Olympic Team performed in a way that EVERY Piranha member should be proud of at Golden West College. Kelli Andrade was the team leader by qualifying for finals in all six of her events and finishing in the top three in four different events. Kelli earned a Silver Medal in the 100 breast, Silver in the 50 breast, Bronze in the 100 fly, and Bronze in the 200 IM. All four swims for Kelli were best times.
