Officials

We encourage all families to have at least one parent serve as an official.  Effective fall 2021, all swim clubs in South Dakota will be required to provide officials to meets they attend.  The steps for a Stroke and Turn Official are:

Register with USA Swimming (paid for by the Club)

Shadow for 4 shifts

Take an open-book test

Undergo a background check (paid for by the Club)

Take the Athlete Protection Training & Concussion Training by USA Swim (brief)

Ask our Treasurer to order you a white official’s shirt & name tag.

Being an official gives you another type of "job" you can work at home meets.  ****Additionally, for away meets, you will not be charged the $25.00 fee, if you officiate during sessions your athlete competes or equivalent to the number of sessions, they compete in.

For more information you may reach out to any board member.

Committees

Many hands make light work which is why every family is required to serve on a committee from the list below.  Committee requirements apply year-round including during a swimmer’s hiatus from the team, with the exception of the swimmer leaving the team entirely (not planning to return).

Families that have had an athlete participate with BSC for at least 4 seasons or 3 full years will be strongly encouraged to head a committee or become an official.

Families will be encouraged to choose a committee that they would like to be part of at the beginning of each annual registration. If a choice is not made the board will assign you to a committee. This family member must be an adult.

When you join a committee, you are asked to commit to two years.
