Swim America Swim Lessons

FAQ

Q: What is Swim America?

A: SwimAmerica lessons are the heart of a swim community. We train swimmers who grow more and more eager to swim  because they learn to swim well, who are safe because they master the necessary skills, and who have fun because they are confident in the water.

Technique Focused   – We teach swimmers how to do it right from the first lesson forward. Designed by experts in aquatics education, we focus on efficient technique as our basis - from proper breathing at the beginning all the way through productive kicking, stroking, and streamlining. Efficient swimmers are fast and safe in the water.

Goal Driven   – With core skills taught at each station, swimmers learn, practice, and demonstrate mastery at their own pace. The stations progress logically, with skills building on those achieved in prior stations.  Parents, grandparents, fellow swimmers, coaches, and the program director all recognize and applaud the swimmer's movement from one station to the next.

Team Taught   – Every program is made up of a team of instructors dedicated to the success of each child. Working together under the supervision of the Program Director or Site Supervisor, these instructors provide consistent teaching that addresses the individual needs of the students. We all work together for each child’s success because we are all part of Team SwimAmerica.

Q: What type of lessons do you offer?

A: We offer preschool lessons for ages 3-5 and school age lessons for 4 year olds who are comfortable in the water through age 18. In the summer time we also offer a parent and child class for ages 1-3 and a lifeguard prep class for ages 12 and up.

Q: If my swimmer is new to your lessons how do I determine their level?

A: With all swimmers new to our lessons we do a skill eval on the first day to place them in the appropriate level.

Q: How many levels are there?

A: There are 10 levels in each of our School Age and Preschool level classes. Preschool levels are assisted with teacher where school age lessons are focused to have swimmers complete skills independently with the teacher coaching them through the skills.

Q: When can my swimmer move up a level and do I need to track their level?

A: Once your swimmer is in lessons with us we do all the level tracking! Once a teacher believes their student is ready to pass to the next level the deck supervisor will come "test" their skills and determine whether they are ready to move up to the next level. Students can progress through the levels at their own pace and do not need to wait to advance their skills until the next session. Students get sent home with a gold sticker on the day they pass to place on their Swim America Certificate which they recieve in their first session of lessons.

Preschool level students recieve their stickers at the end of their session for advancing levels.
