Swimmer Code of Conduct

(Updated August 2023)

As a swimmer and member of Brookings Swim Club, I know that I can expect to be in an atmosphere of fellowship, sportsmanship, and respectfulness.  In order to receive the benefits this atmosphere has to offer me, I also know there are certain responsibilities that I must take on my part.  Therefore, I will abide by the following rules before, during and after practice. This includes locker rooms and hallways:

  1. It is a privilege to be part of the Brookings swim club.
  2. I will follow directions. I will listen to my coach and abide by their instruction AT ALL TIMES.
  3. No Horseplay (pushing, running, bothering others, or threatening behavior).
  4. No temper tantrums.
  5. No teasing or name-calling, profanity or offensive language.
  6. No swimming on top of other swimmers, pulling a swimmer’s foot, or pulling on lane ropes.
  7. I will apply the concepts, drills and skills I am taught and give my best effort in practice and meets.
  8. I will be prompt for practice and meets, unless excused by the coach. I will communicate my schedule to the coach.
  9. I understand that I represent BSC and the coaches at meets and in the community.  I will respect our reputation and character.
  10. I will respect our facilities and facilities of host teams.

In addition, senior swimmers also agree to: lead by example by being respectful, showing a strong work ethic, and being team leaders.  Seniors are expected to be at home meets early and stay after the meets to help set up and tear down.

If the code of conduct plan is not followed the age-level coach, admin coach, board of directors or any combination of these held positions will communicate behavior and subsequent discipline plan on the BSC Swimmer Disciplinary Action Form
