PHOTO & VIDEO POLICY

PURPOSE

Huntsville Swim Association promotes safe and common-sense photography and video that protect the integrity and privacy of swimmers and their families. All photographs taken at HSA must observe generally-accepted standards of decency.

While the great majority of images are appropriate and are taken in good faith, it is a fact that images can be misused and children can be put at risk if common-sense procedures are not observed. This policy is to protect HSA’s swimmers’ decency, privacy, and integrity.

HSA PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO RULES

  1.  Action shots should be a celebration of the sporting activity and not a sexualized image in a sporting context.
  2.  Action shots should not be taken or retained where the photograph or video reveals a torn or displaced swimsuit.
  3.  Photographs or video should not be taken from behind swimming blocks or exhibit a child climbing into or out of the swimming pool.
  4.  Photographs or videos should never be taken in locker-rooms or bathrooms.

HSA PHOTO AND VIDEO PUBLISHING

It is understood that Coaches, employees, swim team parents, and swimmers of Huntsville Swim Association do regularly photograph team members at HSA-hosted activities and at other team USA Swimming-related activities. These photos are often shared among team parents, swimmers, and coaches and may ultimately be used on bulletin boards, HSA promotional materials, or team social media pages.

A parent or guardian of any HSA Swimmer has the right to refuse, to opt out of having their child’s photos/videos taken, retained, and used by Huntsville Swim Association by signing the Photo/Video Opt-Out Form. The exercise of this right of refusal cannot be used as grounds for refusing entry into a swimming competition.

In the case of open meets and other competitions where the host club has an official photographer present, all parents attending should be made aware of this in the HSA meet information.
