The Lifeguard and CPR Class offers Full Certifications and Recertifications through the American Red Cross Certification Program.

Program Information

  • The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to prevent, protect and respond to aquatic emergencies, and provide professional-level care until emergency medical services take over.
  • The course includes training and certifcation in CPR, First Aid, and AED use.
Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive a 2-year certification in:

Lifeguarding (including Deep Water)

with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid

Full Certification - Blended learning (online + in-person)

  • Requirements:
    • Must be at least 15 years of age
    • Participants must complete 7 hours of online learning prior to the start of course. The instructor will provide all of the necessary links.
    • Successfully complete two prerequisite swimming skills:
      1. ​​Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest
      2. Complete a timed event sequence within 1 minute and 40 seconds
    • ​Successfully complete 3 final assessments:
      1. ​​Rotate in-conduct surveillance - rotate-out
      2. Timed Single Rescuer CPR scenario
      3. Multiple Rescuer Response scenario
    • Score a minimum of 80% on the final written exam (50 questions)

​​​Recertification​ - Blended learning (online + in-person)

  • Requirements:
    • Must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, and certification expired by no more than 30 days.
    • Participants must complete 6 hours of online learning prior to the start of course. The instructor will provide all of the necessary links.
    • Successfully complete three final skill assessments:
      1. ​​Timed Response
      2. Rotation and Scanning
      3. Final Team Response Testing Scenario
    • ​Score a minimum of 80% on the final written exam (50 questions)
  • Must bring your own pocket mask

Class Information

  • Participants must purchase or download the Lifeguarding Manual r.24 from the American Red Cross.
  • All participants should bring the following to both class days: Electronic device to access the Lifeguard/CPR Manual, swimsuit, towel, and packed lunches and snacks.
