HoD Proposal: Short Course State Date Changes in 24/25-25/26 Seasons
KYLSC Coaches,
In response to our (the coaches) constant grumbling about the congestion of championship meets in Feb/Mar AND with the likely addition of a KHSAA Semi-State meet to the calendar this February:
The KYLSC Board put together a select committee to explore alternative dates for the SCY State meets for our '24-'25 and '25'-'26 seasons for presentation to this year's House of Delegates. This committee was composed of Colin Faris (Senior Vice-Chair), Nick Graves (Age Group Vice-Chair), Kris Humphries (Technical Planning Chair), and myself (Coaches' Rep).
The unanimous conclusion of this committee is that the athletes would be better served by moving the KYLSC Short Course meets to the following dates:
-13&O State to the 1st or 2nd Weekend of December
-12&U State to the 3rd Weekend of Feb or 1st Weekend of March (weekends before OR after likely new KHSAA State weekend)
*leeway on weekends allows for flexibility for host venues

We acknowledge that no solution is 100% perfect and that no party will be completely happy in any situation. But, we feel like this is a
better solution than the current setup for a vast majority of KYLSC swimmers. If the House decides to pass it and it works, great! But if it ends up being a worse situation, all if it is completely reversible by the House in the future. We can return to the status quo in '26-'27. KYLSC made some positive changes to the LC State meet(s) this Summer. So, in that spirit, we ask you all to give this proposal your serious consideration.
Please think this over during the 9 days until HoD and be prepared to discuss it during the Coaches' Meeting. Also, please get the feedback of your swimmers and parents, too! Should this come to a vote on the floor of HoD, it will require a 2/3s majority to pass due to it being submitted within 60 days of the meeting.
Thanks,
Kevin
