What a super fun meet! Gold Medal walked away with the win over FAST by over 1200 points as well as with many new best times and new time cuts for our upcoming championship meets...here are our meet reviews! Joselyn displays great sportsmanship by cheering for her teammates at swim meets and brings a positive attitude with a smile to dry land and practice each day. Age Group One Swimmer of the Month for April The AG1 swimmer of the month for April is Leah Bushko! Leah had nearly perfect practice attendance throughout the entire month on top of a great work ethic and an always-positive attitude. Leah is a great in-practice leader for the group and is always supportive and inclusive of her teammates. During challenging sets Leah often brings an optimistic attitude that is greatly appreciated by her teammates and coaches. Congratulations Leah!
Age Group 2 Ahwatukee Ella Wilson is our AG2 April Swimmer of the Month! Ella joined Gold Medal last fall and has been learning all things swim! As a new 9-year old she has emerged as the youngest lane leader and often times swims just off pace of our older group. Age Group 2 AG2 swimmers made a splash in pool racing for the first time this season. This group of 12 swimmers raced SCY over the weekend. As a group we had 14 new Regional qualifying times and 100% improvement for each swimmer in at least one event. We also had several first-time longer distance swims for the newly aged up 11-12 swimmers. This meet provided an opportunity to lay a foundation for continued success this LCM season. Gold Medal came out in full force at our first long course of the year in Tucson at the FAST Mayflower. Congratulations to all swimmers; we had many first swims, best times, as well as new qualifications for JOs, Age Group State, Sectionals, and Futures. The Senior 2 and Gold groups contributed significantly to the Gold Medal Swim Club winning the State Age Group Championships in March. These two groups were not given the recognition they deserved at the appropriate time. The coaching staff apologizes for letting this slip through the administrative cracks. Senior One Jack Luken had an outstanding month of March. He had his usual excellent attendance and effort in practice, that is sometimes taken for granted. His performances at Sectionals in Austin were outstanding. He swam five individual best times, swam best time relay splits, and won the 1000 and 1650 freestyles.
