Gold Medal swimmers had lots of first time swims in the 500 and 1000 frees as well as many outstanding swims, way to go! Swimmer of the Month for September Senior 1 Due to the large size of Senior 1, I have three winners for September. Male Swimmer: Cedric Brooking. Cedric has significantly improved his work ethic over the past few months. He has displayed a tremendous attitude and swam well at the SAC meet and in practice test sets. Gold Medal swimmers were ready to race at the first meet of the season, here are the results! AG2 The AG2 started the season with an excellent meet this weekend. Many new swimmers to the team swam great in their first meet. Friday night the group did an outstanding job with 1 new state and 11 new Regional qualifying times. After countless great performances at the July and August Championship meets, Gold Medal Swim Club finished 23rd nationally in USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championship (VCC) ranking system. VCC uses times from our 11-18 year old swimmers to calculate point values, and is a general gauge of overall team strength and performance. Gold Medal finished the season ranked 5th in the entire Western Zone, with the only teams ahead of us being teams with 3-5 times the number of swimmers as GM. Gold Medal Swim Club sent a group of nine swimmers to the Junior Nationals in Irvine, California. This meet came after the group spent a week in Texas at the Future's Championships. The ability to swim best times at the second of two meets in a row was an incredible accomplishment. Landon recorded an almost three second improvement in the 400 IM and placed 20th overall at the Senior Nationals in Irvine, California at the end of July. This meet completed an excellent year for Landon, where he competed in many high level meets, including the World Championship Trials in April. Landon will be continuing his swimming career at the University of Tennessee this coming school year. We wish him great success at Tennessee and look forward to seeing his continued improvement.

A small group of Gold Medal swimmers were part of the Arizona All-Star Team that attended the Western Zone Age Group Chamnpionships. Gold Medal had an excellent showing at the Futures Championship Meet in College Station. Gold Medal Men are the Futures Champions, and Gold Medal Women took 6th place overall. In Combined Scores, Gold Medal took 2nd, only behind a team composed of college swimmers. In this meet, Gold Medal added several new Junior National cuts.
