Amherstview – The Belleville Youth Swim Team brought 50 athletes to the Ernestown Barracudas Invitational Swim Meet last weekend. The team placed third overall behind the host club and the Kingston Blue Marlins, but managed to fight off other teams from Ottawa, Kingston, Brockville and Perth. Belleville has paid tribute to a young naval cadet who rescued a man from drowning earlier this fall. 14-year old Master Seaman Kristianna Barton jumped into the waters of Gull Lake on the last Sunday in September to save 85 year old Doug Cooke. On-line registration for the 2013 - 2014 season will be open soon for all returning swimmers. Thank you to Shelly Miller who has spent many hours this summer getting this all set up. Brantford - Four athletes from the Belleville Youth Swim Team competed at Ontario Long Course Provincial Championships last week. Stephanie Cairns, competing in the in the 14 year old female category, brought home a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m freestyle. Talia Pappalardo earned a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle for the 15 year old female division.
