Officiating is a critical part of running a successful swim meet. Officials ensure a fair, safe, and positive competitive environment for our swimmers.
Whether you’re new to the world of swimming or a seasoned parent, there’s no better way to get involved in your swimmer’s sport than by officiating. There are a variety of positions on deck, so there’s something for everyone!
Why Become an Official?
• Support Your Swimmer: Officiating allows you to be close to the action, supporting your swimmer and the club.
• Earn Volunteer Points: PICK families are required to volunteer at 4 out of our 5 hosted meets. Becoming an official is an excellent way to fulfill your volunteer commitment.
• Training Provided: No experience is necessary! We provide free training and cover the cost of your registration with Swim Canada.
• Fun and Engaging: Officiating is a great way to be part of the swimming community and enjoy the excitement of swim meets.
How to Get Started
Step 1: Register as an Official with Swim Canada (via REMS)
Officials must register each season through Swimming Canada. Only officials with an active, approved registration can volunteer on-deck during meets, are covered by insurance, and can access training and clinics.
Step-by-Step Registration Instructions:
1️⃣ Select Officials - Self Registration from the available memberships
- Click Register
- Note: It may say “purchase,” but there is no fee — the club covers your registration.
- Do not select any other membership type
2️⃣ Login to REMS & Complete your Registration
- Log in using the same account credentials you used to register your swimmer.
- Forgot your password? Click Forgot Password.
- Tip: Check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see the email
If you are not the family member who manages the swimmer’s account and want your own login, see Step 6
3️⃣ Add/ Renew Registration
- Click Add/Renew.
- Ensure your Association says Pickering Swim Club.
- If you have multiple swimmers in different clubs, select the correct club.
- You’ll see a list of memberships and their prices — simply click Continue.
4️⃣ Select the Person you want to Register
- Use the drop-down menu to select the person who wants to register as an official.
- Only individuals aged 14 and older may be registered as officials.
- If the person’s name is not listed, you can add them.
- Note: This means you will share your account login with that person.
- If they want their own account, they must create one separately (Step 6).
5️⃣ Update your Profile & Sign Consents
- Review your personal details and ensure your contact information is accurate.
- Sign all required Swimming Canada consents.
6️⃣ Not the family administrator/ Need a Separate Account?
- Only use this if you are not the family member managing the swimmer’s account and want your own login.
- On the login page, click Don’t have an account? Sign Up here.
- Create your account by entering your information and clicking Register.
- Complete Steps 3–5 above for your new account.
7️⃣ Approval Process
- Your account will initially show “Awaiting Approval” until reviewed by the club.
- After all consents are signed and approved, your status becomes Active.
🎉 Congratulations! You’re registered as an official for the season! Officials with an Active status are eligible to volunteer on deck and have access to our e-modules and clinics.
Step 2: Sign Up for Training
New to officiating or ready to advance? We offer free training. Some of our clinics are led by senior officials; others, including the Introductory training, are available as e-modules you can complete at your own pace.
📌 The first two clinics you should take are:
- Introduction to Officiating (Self-directed e-module)
- Safety Marshal (Self-directed e-module)
These courses provide the foundation for officiating and are required before taking on-deck roles.
Step 3: Volunteer at a PICK Meet
Ready to put your skills to work? Sign up to volunteer at one of our meets! Each meet has a dedicated page where you'll find sing-up forms and other important details about each of our meets
