Mock Meet and More

Donald Deutscher

We hope you had a good time watching the kids at our mock meet.  While it did not exactly replicate a meet, it did give a good understanding of meet basics and the kids had fun. Please see the list of reminders for future meets.

A big thank you to:

-Rick Potter, Coach Cindy’s husband, who has worked as an official for many years and continues to support the sport and our team with his knowledge and time.

-Joe Parker who set up the timing system, and gathered gear for the 25-yard timers.

-Stacie Wagner who set up the meet and ran the timing system.

-Erika and Ben O’Leary for providing parents with another opportunity to learn about meets.

-Our oldest swimmers who helped their younger teammates- we saw you.

-All the members of our board of directors and team who helped set up the meet, worked on deck and in the bleachers, and helped clean-up.  You made this possible and helped control the moments of chaos and we are grateful.

Please follow these reminders for our upcoming meets:

  1. Masks are required unless swimming.  Please review this with your swimmer as it is a requirement for our participation at meets and use of our home pool.

They must wear masks to the blocks and immediately following a swim. Our youngest swimmers did an excellent job returning to get their masks following the 25-yard swims.

  1. We will have limited space for seating at meets- swimmers need to bring googles, cap, water bottle, towel.
-If swimmers are allowed to bring backpacks on deck, then their belongings must be kept in it. We may ask that the backpack be taken off deck to provide seating for all of our swimmers.

-If swimmers are not allowed to bring their items on deck, then there is usually a space where backpacks can be placed- often a gym or cafeteria.Do not bring valuable items.  Be sure to label your items including team suit.
-In order to maximize seating, restricting backpacks from the bleachers is also commonplace.

Upcoming Meets

Please be sure to commit your swimmer to Regionals as soon as possible.  There are no qualifying times for Regionals. Leave the events blank as coaches choose the events.  Be sure to select the appropriate day/session that you can attend or we will choose events for each day.  If you already have a State Meet qualifying time, then you cannot swim at that event at Regionals.

State Meet qualifying times can be found on the WI Swimming web site under Swimmers / Time Standards – scroll to find the data you would like to see.  Wisconsin Swimming - Time Standards (teamunify.com)  Qualifying times for each event are set by gender, age, and the length of the competition pool in which the time is achieved.

Officials

Along with coaches and lifeguards, we now face a shortage of officials.  In order to have intra-squad meets in which times become official, we need to have enough officials to meet USA Swimming guidelines.  The WI Swimming web site is the source for upcoming officials training courses: Wisconsin Swimming - Becoming an Official (teamunify.com)   Please consider becoming an official.

At one time DFAC provided officials for most of our home and away meets. It is an excellent way to learn the sport, and to be involved in your child’s sport.  It also offers the best viewing place- on deck.
