DFAC NEWS 2022-05-09 FROM COACH TAMMY
DFAC NEWS 2022-05-09
Kudos to all of our swimmers for a fun meet! We were very pleased with their swims- our new and experienced swimmers are off to a great start. There is a lot for our swimmers to remember and a lot of skills to learn. DQs and missed events are part of the process of learning how meets work. We let the kids know that it is OK, and we ask what could be done differently next time and offer guidance when needed. When you see the swims of the older, stronger swimmers, know that they started where the little ones are now. It is a progression whose timeline varies by swimmer. And, best times get harder and harder for the experienced swimmers (who need reminders of where we are in the season.)
Thank you, parents, for your volunteer work and stepping in quickly when you saw help was needed somewhere. It takes a lot of people to run a smooth meet. Some things did not go as expected, but we are sorting that before our next meet in June. We have a long history of being excellent meet hosts and we are on the path to doing that again. This first meet was a good start!
Meets take a lot of preparation that begins long before the evening drop-off and set-up.
Special thanks to:
Stacie Wagner who does an exceptional job as our Meet Director in her planning and management of event. It may seem that this is a straight-forward process, but it requires juggling multiple responsibilities, problem-solving with countless people, and ensuring that the meet data is accurate from set-up and entry through to final results. And to Lynette Raether who is shadowing Stacie and who brings meet technology experience to our team
Joe Parker, Don Deutscher, and Rick Potter who spent hours trying to get the scoreboard up and running. The hard drive was replaced, but the other issues could not be resolved in time for the meet.
Carrie Lubcke who started the meet planning months ago and never stopped helping. She was there for meet set up, multiple concession runs, timing, staging, and everywhere she saw someone needed a hand.
Marianne Schulz who prepared delicious feasts for breakfast and lunch for our officials and coaches in the hospitality room. She also brought her own assistants to help set-up, host, and clean-up.
Our older swimmers who helped out all over the place: timing, running errands, cleaning-up, helping younger swimmers. We saw you😉
Our board of directors, especially Jenny Touchet, who ensures that all of the pieces come together, Ekaterina Pronina, for coordinating the volunteer work, and Ashly Miller who provides exceptional direction to our new BoD and swim families.
Our coaches who bring experience, knowledge, and calm to the day.
