Keeping with the great Championship Season that GTSA has been having 6 swimmers represented the team this past weekend at USA Swimming Senior Sectionals in Orlando, FL. This meet combines the best swimmers from Florida, and Florida Gold Coast as well as invited teams from all around the country. Greater Tampa Swimming Association had nine swimmers compete at this years Florida Age Group Championships. This is one of the biggest teams GTSA has taken to this meet in years. Those 9 swimmers had 28 individual swims, and the 10&under girls competed in 2 relays. Of those 28 swims 21 of them were personal bests. GTSA finished off the 2012 Senior Championships with a bang. Margaret Shumake, Emma Donahue, Ally Donahue, and Jeremy Parker all made it to finals giving the team their most qualifiers on the weekend. All 4 swimmers made finals in the 100 Breaststroke. Jeremy Parker finished 15th in the Senior Boys event with a time of 1:15.86. Saturday GTSA’s Senior Championships swimmers competed in the 50 Freestyle, 200IM, 100 Backstroke, and the 500 Freestyle. GTSA did not dissapoint in the shortest event of the weekend with great swims from Tyler Heath (23.06), Ally Donahue (25.47), Emma Donahue (26.31), Jeremy Parker (22.12), and Giakomo Rosso (22.66). Florida Swimming Senior Championships continued on Friday in Orlando, FL. The first event led to 3 new best times for GTSA. Tyler Heath (1:47.91), Jeremy Parker (1:46.60), and Giakomo Rosso (1:48.82) all went personal bests in the 200 Freestyle. The 2012 Florida Swimming Senior Championships kicked off Thursday in Orlando, FL with some distance events. Mary Margaret Deedrick was the only swimmer for GTSA to participate on Thursday evening. She swam the 1,650 Freestyle in a time of 19:08.12 finishing in 17th place. It was a great way to start off the meet for GTSA. Greater Tampa Swimming Association wrapped up their first meet of the new Calendar year this past weekend. They competed with some of the world’s elite swimmers at the Clearwater Aquatic Team’s Al Soltis Invitational. Participants included the Canadian Youth National Team, Club Wolverine’s Elite Group, as well as T2 Aquatics which has current American Record Holder in the 200 SCY Backstroke Liz Pelton. Over the weekend 42 GTSA swimmers participated in the Jingle Bell Invitational in Clearwater, FL. That is the most swimmers GTSA has taken to a meet in recent history! Although the team did not attend finals on Sunday, to enjoy ourselves at our annual Christmas party, the team finished in 7th place with 829.5 points! 26 different swimmers earned point over the three days.
