Florida Swimming completed a dominating performance at the 2009 Southern Zone Age Group Championships amassing 788 points over the 5 day competition.  The closest competition came from Southeastern Swimming (624pts), North Carolina Swimming (505pts), and Georgia Swimming (469pts).  Tyler definitely did his part in helping Florida Swimming earn their 3rd consecutive championship.  He made 2 individual finals including the 200 free finishing in 6th place with a time of 2:10.51, and the 400 free finishing in 6th place with a time of 4:33.61, both personal bests.  Tyler also competed on...

  DAY 1 Prelims                 JO’s kicked off Thursday morning with the 100 Freestyles for all ages. GTSA had 3 new personal bests including Allie Donahue, Tyler Heath, Blaise Genne, with Tyler qualifying in 2 nd place going into the final. The 100 freestyle was followed by the sprint breaststrokes for all ages. Both Allie and Emma Donahue went new personal bests while qualifying 11 th and 6 th respectively for the finals. In the final events for the day Allie Donahue capped off a successful morning with a personal best in the 100...

Based on FINA’s ruling Monday, USA Swimming will adopt as legal in general competition, all suits included on the revised FINA-approved list. The list published Monday includes an additional 198 suits, which have been added to the original 202 that were approved.   

       At the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Awards Reception on Thursday June 18th Greater Tampa Swimming Association was awarded 2nd place in the team fundraising category for raising over $3000. GTSA’s Emma Donahue won the Golden Sneaker Award for raising more than $1000 in the category of individual fundraisers.   The Donahue family and GTSA would like to thank everyone on the team who contributed to JDRF and also participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes.  It was a wonderful day full of team camaraderie.

  Tampa Swim League Developmental Meets                 The Tampa Swim League is a summer swim league for swimmers who compete for the participating teams that have not obtained Junior Olympic standards.  These meets are Tuesday evenings around the area, and are great starter meets for new swimmers, due to the relaxed atmosphere and the small time commitment.  Most meets last under and hour.  A swimmer does not have to pre register for these meets, but just come to the pool at the warm-up time with the $5 participation fee. ...

USA Swimming ammends rules regarding swimsuits  (6/1/2009) Following the ruling by FINA on May 19, 2009, regarding approval of swimsuits for international competition, USA Swimming’s Rules and Regulations Committee has announced an amendment to rule 102.9, covering swimsuits at USA Swimming competitions.  The committee has also outlined specific rules applying to swimsuits allowed at the 2009 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships and World Championship Trials and 2009 Open Water Word Championship Trials.     This past weekend, Emily Clifford , participated in the Florida Swimming vs. Florida Gold Coast Dual meet. This meet is comprised of some of the most prominent swimmers in the state of Florida. Florida swimming beat Florida Gold Coast by a score of 734-538.
