Senior Captain Max Scheurer participated in a signing ceremony with the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities on February 1, at Centennial High School. The ceremony was especially memorable because Scheurer is the first Centennial boys’ swimmer to commit to swim for a NCAA Division I school. The 7th, 8th and 9th grade Centennial Junior Invitational brought four teams together to turn out many extremely fast swims for everyone one that competed. The competition was so tight between the four teams, that the team rankings were not known until the completion of the last event when it was announced that Maple Grove placed first with 366.5 points, Centennial placed second with 340.5 points, St. Michael-Albertville placed third with 321 points and Duluth East placed fourth with 254 points. Centennial took an 80 to 101 loss against Maple Grove during its “Cougar’s Seniors Night” meet on January 26, 2023. For the second year in a row, the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade Cougars won the Red, White and Blue Invitational. Despite taking eight first place finishes out of twelve events, Centennial lost a close meet against Andover on Thursday, January 19. The final score of the meet was Huskies 95 and Cougars 91. The meet was a back-and-forth contest between the two teams and victory was not claimed by either of them until the results of the last event were posted. Centennial had high hopes for a second-place finish going into the 2023 Section 7AA True Team Meet held on January 14, 2023, but came home disappointed with a third-place finish behind Andover. It was only the second time in the team's eight year history that it has placed third at this meet. The Cougars competed at home against the very small Orioles Swimming and Diving Team on January 12. From the start of the meet to its end Centennial dominated Osseo by outscoring them in ten of the twelve events. The 99 to 79 score was a nice gift to all of the Centennial parents that came to the meet to be honored by their athletes during Parent’s Night. After a couple of weeks of multiple canceled practices and athletes missing workouts due to illness and family obligations over winter break, Centennial faced off with Champlin Park for its third dual meet of the season on January 5, 2023. After 9 years in the making, the Centennial Cougars hosted the first alumni swimming meet in the team's history on December 28, 2022. The alumni swimmers made their presence known in the pool by winning almost every event and displaying some extremely fast times. A few of the returning Cougars even turned in personal record performances in the events that they swam that evening.
