MAVS EMAIL: Welcome (beginning of the 2022-2023 season)!
Hello Everyone and welcome to the beginning of the 2022-2023 season with the Rocklin Swim Team. If you are new to the team or just new to year round swimming side of the team, my name is Andrew Murch and I am the head coach of the Rocklin Mavericks. This will be my second year with the program and first year as head coach since taking over the position this summer. The purpose of this email is to answer some questions that I am sure are on people's minds.

Practice Gear+Suits
Click the link below to visit our team store to make sure that your swimmers have all of the required gear for practices. Short fins are required for all Mavs swimmers . If you have already purchased or own long fins you can bring them to me on the pool deck and I will cut them to the appropriate length. For hand paddles, select the smallest size that will fit over your swimmer’s hand.
SWIM MEETS
The link below will take you to our tentative swim meet schedule for the year. Please use this schedule to help plan any vacations or getaways that you would like to take. It is recommended that any large vacations be taken AFTER championship meets occur, since the weeks leading up to those meets are critical for performance at the meets. Our championship meets this season are:
Short Course Sectionals: November 17-20
Short Course JOs: March 10-12
SWAGR: March 23-26
High School Sections: TBD-usually early May
Long Course Sectionals: July 13-16
Long Course JOs: July 20-23
Long Course Far Westerns: TBD-likely late July/early August
Competing in swim meets is a crucial part of training and is highly encouraged.
We may not attend every session of every meet on the schedule. For example, the coaching staff may decide to skip the Friday evening session of a swim meet and only go to the Saturday and Sunday sessions. We will let you know which sessions we are planning on attending by the time that meet signups open online. When we do attend swim meets on Fridays or Saturdays, practice will be cancelled for all groups attending the meet.
Volunteering at swim meets is mandatory. The most common way to volunteer at our swim meets is filling a timers chair. If you have any interest in becoming a USA stroke and turn official and volunteering that way instead more information can be found here . Once you register for a swim meet, please do everything you can to attend all sessions that you sign up for. The number of volunteers we are required to supply is dependent on the number of swimmers that we have registered in each session of the swim meet, so registered swimmers that do not attend leave the team with additional volunteer requirements that the parents in attendance need to fill.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected] .
