NEWSLETTER 2010-11 ISSUE 14

CONGRATULATIONS to our 38-strong LAC squad that competed at the CAMO Invitational in Montreal last weekend.  Our best time conversion rate was a respectable 60%, which works out to an average of 4 personal bests per swimmer, out of 7 swims.  If you were above this average, keep doing what you're doing...VERY GOOD!  If you were at the average, respectable, you had some good swims and some that could've gone better...welcome to most swim meets!  If you were below the average, well, take a look at a couple of things: 1) where have you been with your training?  2) did you manage yourself properly during the meet, both at the pool and away from it, without any help from Mom or Dad?  3) did you race with the confidence you race with when you compete in your home pool, against swimmers that you know you've raced before, i.e., how did you handle the "unknown" of a meet in a strange place, against strange swimmers?  i.e. again, did you BELIEVE in yourself?  These are all things that you can fix for the next time...and remember, there's ALWAYS a next time!

We finished 8th overall out of 22 clubs, with 50 swims that ranked in the top 10, and we had a total of 21 heat winners during the preliminaries.  Several swimmers raced in their first-ever evening finals.  Well done to those of you who achieved one (or more) of these performances.  And there was plenty of team spirit demonstrated throughout the meet!

Special CONGRATULATIONS to our top performers: JENNA ROMAN (11/12 girls): GOLD in 50FL (with a new CLUB RECORD time of 32.11) and BRONZE in 50BR; CAMILLE RYAN (13/14 girls): BRONZE in 50BK; 11/12 girls 4x50FR relay 2nd place (Jenna R., Gabrielle D., Taylor M., Jessica S.); and first time Junior Provincial qualifier JOSIE ANDRES.

And, of course, none of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of our chaperones PAM LEWIS and PAUL CAPPA.  Many, many thanks to you for all of your work.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who raced at our HOLIDAY TIME TRIAL on Sat.Dec.18.  Many of you completed race distances that you've never done before, WELL DONE! Thank you to everyone who donated mittens to the Mitten Tree, and many thanks to Meet Manager JOE GATI.

CONGRATULATIONS to JOE BARTOCH, RICHARD HORTNESS, and COACH PAUL for their performances at the SC World Championships in Dubai. Richard's highest individual finish was 31st in the 100FR (48.83) and he led off the men's 4x100FR Relay in an LAC CLUB RECORD 48.38, while Joe finished 27th overall in the 100FL (52.05).  Both Joe and Rich were on the 4x100FR and Medley Relays that narrowly missed the finals, placing 9th in both.

CONGRATULATIONS to MATT ROMAN for his performances at the Paul Bergen International in Beaverton, Oregon as part of Team Ontario.

GOOD LUCK to MATT KWATYRA and BRAYDEN SALMON, who will be departing on Dec.27 for Great Britain for a 3-week training and competition tour with the National Junior Team.
