THE COACHES REPORT

Here are 5 quick tips from Olivier Poirier Leroy to develop the attitude of an athlete who swims to win:

1. Finish STRONG. Are you the type of swimmer who gives 80% in practice? Or doesn’t finish the main sets on a regular basis? Get in the habit of finishing the things you start, for once you make a habit of not completing the work you set out to do, it will extend out into your races as well.

2. Focus only on you. Set goals for you that don’t hinge on the performances of others. Your training and preparation shouldn’t hinge on what others are doing.

3. Be aggressive. When you have established momentum, don’t let it go. When you have a streak of great practices, do your best to extend the chain for as long as you can. Similarly with your races, swim with aggression, confidence and energy from beginning to end.

4. DREAM BIG. Get in touch with the child-like enthusiasm for achieving BIG things. Sure, some of the things that you wanted as a kid might have been a little, um, unrealistic (I wanted to be Optimus Prime, after all…), but that doesn’t mean you should stop aiming high.

5. NO negative self-talk. At the root this is where swimming not to lose starts. The doubts, the wavering belief, the thoughts that you aren’t worthy or deserving of success. Negative self-talk feeds negative emotions, which drive inconsistent focus and performance. Positive self talk has the opposite effect; it feeds into positive emotions, leading to a more relaxed, focused and inherently better performance.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

2024 LAC-Hosted Meets:

2024 LAC-Hosted Meets:

May 10 - 12, 2024 - LAC - Hollandia Spring Invitational

July 13 - 14, 2024 - LAC - Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational

LAC – Hollandia Spring Invitational – Senior Officials – Job Assignments: I sent out my worksheet of senior official assignments.  Please let me know if there are any issues.

Hollandia Minor Official jobs: were posted last week but we still have a lot of openings, and all of these jobs are essential.  We do not ask for spares.  Some people signed up and have subsequently removed their signup so, if you checked earlier and the sessions you were looking for were filled, EVERY session now has open slots.  We need your help!  Friday morning and Sunday afternoon are looking particularly desperate, but every position is important!  Yes, we know many of you have your session credit obligation filled but that does not make staffing this meet any less important.  At this time of year, we are counting on people to do more.  Please help.  If you become available after sign-ups are closed then, when you drop off your swimmer, you could ask the Minor Officials person checking in officials if they are still in need and let them know you are willing if anyone fails to show.

Qualifications:  You can be a timer without any clinics, but every volunteer needs a Swimming Canada Official account.  You can email me if you need an account.  All other jobs require the clinic for the job.

Meet FAQs:

When do I arrive? - Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the session starts (not the warm-up, 45 minutes before the actual racing).  Go to the meeting room on the entry level and check in and then wait there to hear the briefing that will begin 30 minutes before racing starts.

What do I wear? - There is a dress code. Timers and Chief Timers wear white shirts.  All other officials wear red shirts.  Black pants are ideal, but we generally let minor officials wear dark shorts, unless it is a provincial or higher championship meet.  Footwear should be CLEAN and something that can get wet and will not slip on a wet surface.  Bring water in a non-breakable container.  Please no drink, other than water, on deck

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

Please note that high school students can get their volunteer credits for school as well as session credits for your swim family by helping out at our meets.

To check your session credit balance - log on to your LAC account on the website, go to "my account" and click the "service hours" tab to view your account summary. Any questions contact Donna at [email protected]

Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
