THE COACHES REPORT

Its NOT luck it’s PREPARATION!! Just over 100 mighty LACers will participate in the upcoming Long Course Challenge in Brantford this weekend.  Do your best to prepare yourself for good swims - stay relaxed, stay confident and stay positive. Most importantly, remember that things will not go perfectly! You will not have a perfect meet. In fact there's no such thing as "the perfect meet". Prepare yourself to the best of your ability based on the circumstances, be your own biggest supporter and best coach, and race with confidence and determination. If you're going to do it, you might as well do it with everything you have. Just as there's no such thing as "the perfect swim meet", it's impossible to swim more than one race at a time. Focus on the next one, not the one behind you, not the one 24 hours away. Relax, stay calm, stay in control, remain flexible, and enjoy yourself. The meets are fun, the challenge is exciting, and the very best is far from perfect. GO LAC GO!

Please sign up for this event under the Events Tab on the LAC website.

The cost is $25 per swimmer – billed to your LAC swimmer account.

Important Information regarding this event:

Swimmers 12 years and younger must wear a helmet to participate. You may bring your own helmet or rent one from River Valley for $5. It is strongly recommended that Swimmers 13 years old and older wear a helmet, but it is at the discretion of each family.

Also, please print off the waiver for tubing, fill it out and bring it with you on Sunday, February 11. Please see further information on the LAC website under the “events” tab. The waiver is able in the event information.

Senior Officials: I am accepting offers from volunteers for senior positions at the Western Region Short Course Championships.

Meet Managers Needed: for the LAC – Dr. Paul Hauch invitational.  Email me if interested.

Congratulations! to Kara Nolan on qualifying for, and being approved, as a Level 3 Official. Thanks so much Kara!

Official Certification Cards: If you were given a card and you have taken clinics or gotten signoffs since then so that it is out of sync with your online record then bring it with you to a meet, drop it off in the meet office, and we will get it updated for you.

Registration of Officials/Volunteers: Even to just take a Zoom clinic, you are required to be registered as an Official.  When we see someone, who is not registered as an official, sign up for a clinic or to work at a meet, we create a new official account for you and an email is sent to you from [email protected]  If you have signed up for a clinic or a job and you are not a registered official then watch for the email, probably the next morning (keep tabs on your spam or junk folder too) and, when it comes, please read it and sign on and complete your registration.

Clinics: I am nearing the end of another round of clinics.  They are all being done via Zoom.  The intention is to do all of the clinics except Referee before Regionals, including 1 more Inspector of Turns clinic.  Sign-ups are or will be posted on the LAC web site.  A session credit is earned for each clinic that you take for the first time.  You can take a clinic as many times as you want but session credits are only given for the first time.  Here are the next clinics:

  1. Wednesday, January 31 – Chief Recorder 7:30 to 9:30 PM
  2. Monday, February 5 – Starter (Starts the races) 7:30 to 9:30 PM
  3. Wednesday, February 7 - Meet Manager 7:30 to 10:00 PM
  4. Wednesday, February 14 – Inspector of Turns 7:30 to 10:00 PM

A few clinics are also available to take online as emodules which allows you to take them whenever it suits you.  If you go to Swim Ontario - Clinics there are instructions on how to take the online clinics.  A session credit is only given once for a particular clinic.  Live or as an emodule, not both.  The Zoom clinic presentations can be found online as well.  Great for review but reading those does not count as taking the clinic.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

Please note that high school students can get their volunteer credits for school as well as session credits for your swim family by helping out at our meets.

To check your session credit balance - log on to your LAC account on the website, go to "my account" and click the "service hours" tab to view your account summary. Any questions contact Donna at [email protected]

Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
