THE COACHES REPORT

The 12 & Under Celebration

The 12&Under Celebration saw most of the LAC Development Fundamentals Swimmers compete in an invitational swim meet for the first time! The athletes managed themselves very well through this double-ended, multi-team competition and competed successfully in relays on each day.

The LAC Coaches displayed great pride in the Swimmer’s progression as almost every swimmer in the meet competed in an event they had never raced before. The ability to adapt to new events and take yourself out of a comfort zone helps to create strong, resilient, well-rounded swimmers.

Congratulations to first time Western Region Championship qualifier Julia St. John; and first time provincial qualifiers Alexander Dysko, Maya Haase, Derek Wedlake, Emily Wedlake, and Ava Weese.

Thank you to each and every volunteer that made this event a success for the swimmers. A special thank you to our meet manager Stacey Stokley, and our lead officials Mark and Rose for all of their time and effort.

The 13 & Over Time Trial

The 13&Over time trial was an opportunity for senior LAC Swimmers to challenge themselves at race-pace in some of the longer events that may be outside of their usual event repertoire. The end of January into early February sees our more Senior groups in the heart of the training we need to finish strong in the end of championship season.

Swimmers- stay strong, stay focused and stay positive. What you achieve in practice week over week and month over month will contribute to the quality of racing in the championship season.

Thank You Everyone for Volunteering!  There was a lot of very positive feedback for the 12 & Under and for the 13 & Over.  Apparently, we do a great job of hosting, and that feedback is a reflection of the great people we have coming out and helping.  Another job, well done!  Special recognition to our meet managers Stacey and Dmitrij for another excellent result and huge appreciation for the visiting officials and parents of graduated swimmers who just keep on helping.

About Sign-ups for Jobs, Clinics, anything . . . Please do not sign up if you are not going to attend and stay for the whole event.  If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend, please remove your sign-up to allow someone else to sign-up and so we can plan and find coverage if needed.  When the Volunteer Info: pop-up box appears, please fill in the name of the person coming.  Fill in a separate row on the sign-up for each person.

Registration of Officials/Volunteers: Even to just take a Zoom clinic, you are required to be registered as an Official.  When we see someone, who is not registered as an official, sign up for a clinic or to work at a meet, we create a new official account for you and an email is sent to you from [email protected]  If you have signed up for a clinic or a job and you are not a registered official then watch for the email, probably the next morning (keep tabs on your spam or junk folder too) and, when it comes, please read it and sign on and complete your registration.

Clinics: I am having another round of clinics.  They will all be done via Zoom.  The intention is to do all of the clinics before Regionals.  Sign-ups will be posted on the LAC web site.  A session credit is earned for each clinic that you take for the first time.  You can take a clinic as many times as you want but session credits are only given for the first time.  Here are the next clinics:

  1. Wednesday, January 24 – Administrative Desk (formerly Clerk of the Course) 7:30 to 9:30 PM
  2. Monday, January 29 – Chief Finish Judge / Chief Judge Electronics 7:30 to 9:30 PM
  3. Wednesday, January 31 – Chief Recorder 7:30 to 9:30 PM
  4. Monday, February 5 – Starter (Starts the races) 7:30 to 9:30 PM
  5. Wednesday, February 7 - Meet Manager 7:30 to 10:00 PM

A few clinics are also available to take online as emodules which allows you to take them whenever it suits you.  If you go to Swim Ontario - Clinics there are instructions on how to take the online clinics.  A session credit is only given once for a particular clinic.  Live or as an emodule, not both.  The Zoom clinic presentations can be found online as well.  Great for review but reading those does not count as taking the clinic.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

Please note that high school students can get their volunteer credits for school as well as session credits for your swim family by helping out at our meets.

To check your session credit balance - log on to your LAC account on the website, go to "my account" and click the "service hours" tab to view your account summary. Any questions contact Donna at [email protected]

Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
