THE COACHES REPORT

The 2022-2023 London Aquatic Club Annual Awards Banquet
Congratulations LAC! The 2022-2023 swim season is finally completed and it’s time to put our focus back onto the current season. Our coaching staff is incredibly proud of the outstanding number of awards presented Sunday night. We would also like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the committee of parents who made everything possible, especially Cara Maar, Jan Burton and Amy Hart!

The LAC  coaching staff extends our apologies  for any errors or omissions in the presentation of awards at the banquet. While we do our best to make sure everyone receives the appropriate awards, errors do occur. The process is manual, so please do not hesitate to reach out to your coach with any questions!

First Time Western Region Qualifiers:
The Western Region qualifying times have been published. We would like to congratulate the following 13 swimmers for being a First Time Western Region Championship Qualifier: Alexander Dysko, William Haase, Emma Jaramillo, Anna Mangul, Lucy Perugino, Thiiru Rajameheshwaran, Jack Robinson, Sarah Schoelier, Derek Wedlake, Emily Wedlake, Theo Waggaesser, Rudolf Waggaesser, and Robert Zhou.

While 8 of these athletes became first-time qualifiers from their performances at the LAC Fall Start Up Time Trial, 5 of these athletes had outstanding performances from last season that now qualify them for the Western Region Swimming Association Championships. Congratulations to all our new qualifiers!

GO LAC GO!

Nutrition Information Sessions:
This year the LAC Coaches have arranged for a sports nutritionist/dietitian to come and speak to some of our LAC athletes. Better understanding Nutrition and learning how to fuel our bodies is important for athletes of all ages and we are looking forward to learning something new at these sessions. Each swimmer is required to have at least one parent attend with them, as parents are usually the ones who purchase the groceries and do most of the food prep.
Age Group Gold/Silver: Friday November 17th 6:30-7:30pm @ CGAC meeting room

IT’S OFFICIAL!

A Word about Signing Up for Clinics and Meet Jobs: When you sign up on the LAC website, there is a pop-up box where you can put in a comment.  Please type in the name of the person who is coming to the clinic or who is volunteering. We need info to confirm the volunteer’s qualifications and to make sure the correct account is updated with the new qualifications. If it is blank, we cannot assume that the person whose name is on your LAC account is the one coming.  It is also important that the person who has signed up is the person who shows up.  Do not try to sign up more than one person on a single row in the sign-up for an event.  A separate row is required for each person coming. Timer is the only position that does NOT require a clinic.  Do not sign up for a job that you will not be qualified for by the meet.  Signing up for a position that you are not yet qualified for is okay if you will be qualified before the meet.

Nov 4 Minor Officials: Sign-ups for Timers and Inspectors of Turns for the November 4 Time Trial were posted today.

Senior Official Positions: For Nov 4 have all been assigned.  You can start volunteering for senior positions for any of the OTHER meets below.  No need to wait.  In fact, I would appreciate having your offers for Nothers ASAP.  If interested, send me a separate email for each meet with the meet name in the subject and the officials, sessions, and positions that each official would like to work in the body.  I will do my best to satisfy.

Next meets:

November 4, 2023 - LAC - November Time Trial

November 23, 2023 - LAC - Nothers – Development Time Trial

November 24 - 26, 2023 - LAC - Nothers Fall Invitational

December 16, 2023 - LAC - Holiday Time Trial

Clinics: People are asking about clinics.  Please see below for the clinic schedule.  Most of the clinics will be done via Zoom.  Camera on is mandatory for Zoom clinics.  If we cannot see you, the assumption is that you are not there.  Inspector of Turns and Stroke Judge are the only ones that I am planning on doing in person, for now.  I’m going to try Zoom for those later. A few clinics are also available to take online which allows you to take them whenever it suits you.  If you go to Swim Ontario - Clinics there are instructions on how to take the online clinics.  Please see last week’s Newsletter for comments on what clinics to take when.  I recommend taking them all!  But the Intro (Timer), Safety Marshal, and Inspector of Turns clinics give you the most opportunities for jobs.  Having all the clinics gives you the best opportunity for variety.  Note that (O/L) below indicates that the course is also available online.

  1. Chief Recorder (Recorder-Scorer) – Zoom – Tue, Oct 24 – 7:00 to 9:00 PM
  2. Timing System Operator Demo – Zoom – Thu, Oct 26 – 7:00 to 8:30 PM
  3. Inspector of Turns – LIVE at GCAC – Fri, Oct 27 – 7:00 to 10:00 PM
  4. Administrative Desk (Clerk of the Course) – Zoom (O/L) – Thu, Nov 2 – 7:00 to 9:00 PM
  5. Inspector of Turns – LIVE at GCAC – Fri, Nov 3 – 7:00 to 10:00 PM
  6. Chief Timekeeper – Zoom (O/L) – Mon, Nov 6 – 7:00 to 9:00 PM
  7. Chief Finish Judge/Chief Judge Electronics – Zoom – Wed, Nov 8 – 7:00 to 9:00 PM
  8. Meet Manager – Zoom – Thu, Nov 9 – 7:00 to 9:30 PM
  9. Starter (Starts the Races) – Zoom – Thu, Nov 16 – 7:00 to 9:00PM
  10. Stroke Judge – Live at CGAC – Fri, Nov 17 – 7:00 to 10:00 PM
  11. Introduction (Timer)/Safety Marshal – Zoom (O/L) – Tue, Nov 21 – 7:00 to 9:30 PM

Other Opportunities:

I received this email from Brantford Aquatic Club. If you will be attending the Team Showdown, do not enjoy sitting in the stands, and would rather be helpful then please feel free to help out.  Session credits can only be earned at LAC meets but other clubs help at our meets, and it would be nice if we did the same in return.

From Brantford.  We are currently working through logistics for our Team Showdown meet held December 15-17, 2023.  Incidentally, this meet coincides with the OJI event at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, leading to a shortage of critical officials. Consequently, we have a favor to ask.  We have created a Sign-Up Genius and kindly request that you share it with your senior officials. We hope they can provide their availability to help us at Team Showdown.  Click Here to Access theSign-Up Genius

If you have any officiating questions please contact Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

To check your session credit balance - log on to your LAC account on the website, go to "my account" and click the "service hours" tab to view your account summary. Any questions contact Donna at [email protected]

Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
