THE COACHES REPORT

The LAC Coaching Staff hopes that everyone has had an opportunity to re-charge their batteries as we embark on the next cycle of the swimming season and shake off those pesky winter blahs. Now is a great time to start working toward your summer swimming goals. The LAC hosted Hollandia meet is 8 GREAT weeks of TRAINING away, and that should be everyone’s focus. Know what your goals are, know what you need to be working on technically and tactically to achieve them, and start working on them – each and every Practice Session. One quality of skill mastery is known as "movement certainty". To be "skilled" at something means that a person is able to meet a performance goal, or "end result", with maximum certainty.  The person who throws a dart into the "bull's eye" is not necessarily a "skilled" darts player. For most people, this outcome is the result of one lucky throw among hundreds of others that aren't so lucky. Only those people who produce the skill goal with a high degree of certainty, on demand, with luck playing little to no role, can be considered "skilled". Come to practice every day with focus and purpose, determined to swim technically well, and you will gain a mastery that eliminates the need to cross your fingers behind the blocks on race day. And remember, if you are on the right track, keep working smart and keep moving forward!

BOARD of DIRECTORS POSITIONS

If you are interested in joining the LAC Board for the 2024-25 swim season please contact the nomination committee by emailing Donna at [email protected] before March 31st.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

2024 LAC-Hosted Long Course Meets:

April 14, 2024 - LAC - Long Course Pentathlon

May 10 - 12, 2024 - LAC - Hollandia Spring Invitational

July 13 - 14, 2024 - LAC - Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational

LAC - Long Course Pentathlon – Senior Officials looking pretty good!  Thank you to everyone who responded to my call for Pentathlon Senior Officials in the last few newsletters!  I have not actually assigned the jobs yet, but I should have minimal troubles, if any, filling all the jobs.  I sent out an email to everyone who volunteered so they could let me know if I made any mistakes before I assign the jobs.  If you emailed me to volunteer but you did not get my confirmation email, please forward your original email to me again.

Pentathlon Minor Official jobs: will be posted in a couple of weeks.

Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational – Meet Managers: Thank you to Christina and Mike MacGillivray for responding to my plea for help!  Hauch was my first meet and I hope they enjoy managing it as much as I did!

Last Round of Clinics for this Season: (I’m getting the longer ones out of the way first)

Inspector of Turns – Thursday, March 21, 7:30 to 10:00 PM via Zoom

Meet Manager – Tuesday, March 26, 7:30 to 10:00 PM via Zoom

Judge Of Strokes – Thursday, March 28, 7:30 to 10:00 PM via Zoom

Starter (the person who starts the races) – Thursday, April 4, 7:30 to 9:30 PM via Zoom

Clinics via eModule: Note that you can take some of the clinics as eModules.  I will not be doing live/zoom clinics again for those ones until the fall.  emodules allow you to take the clinics whenever it suits you.  If you go to Swim Ontario - Clinics there are instructions on how to take the online clinics.  The Zoom clinic presentations can be found online as well.  These are great for review but reading those does not count as taking the clinic.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]  Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder.

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

Please note that high school students can get their volunteer credits for school as well as session credits for your swim family by helping out at our meets.

To check your session credit balance - log on to your LAC account on the website, go to "my account" and click the "service hours" tab to view your account summary. Any questions contact Donna at [email protected]

Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
