WORKOUT CHANGES

NO LAC workouts on Monday October 9th - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

THE COACHES REPORT

WELCOME BACK everyone! We trust that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer, and also trust that you are all ready and eager to have fun as you focus on your 2023-24 goals.

The first few weeks of the year are always an exciting time, as you get re-acquainted with your swimming family, some of whom you might not have seen for a while. Enjoy this, but at the same time make sure when you are in the water and the coaches are directing you, you are giving them your undivided attention. Listen with your ears and your eyes. Pay attention to your coaches and their instructions, make sure you understand exactly how the stroke drills are to be done, and focus on the basics: ready position on the wall, push-offs, streamlines, underwater kicks, and head & body position. Try to channel all of your energy and enthusiasm that has been "cooped up" since mid-July into focusing on your technique and the small details and developing great practice habits. If you can do this now, good technique and the tiny details and great habits will become almost automatic later.

The coaches are all looking forward to a great year. STRONG ALONE - UNSTOPPABLE TOGETHER - GO LAC GO!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Registration of Officials: If you are going to be a meet volunteer this year then EACH volunteer needs to be registered as an official, even if you are not going to set foot on the pool deck.  If you do not have an account, then email me and we will set up accounts.  For each volunteer I need a Name, Email, and Gender.  If you had an account last year and have not yet registered, then please do so.  If you are having trouble logging in, let us know.  If you had an account but did not use it (Clinics and Signoffs), it may not have been moved forward to 2023/24.  We can correct that.  Same if you have forgotten your username and/or password.  It would REALLY be appreciated if you do not make us chase you when you sign up to help but have not registered yet.  We are volunteers too.  As we create or fix accounts, we will trigger an email with the username and password to each account from [email protected]  Same for those of you who do not have a new or stuck accounts but have not yet registered.

Next meets: As usual our first two meets this season are time trials and they are approaching quickly.  If you are qualified for a senior role and want to get started at one of these, please email me with the meet name in the subject and the positions that you would like to work.  If you want to work as a timer or as a Judge of Strokes and Turns, sign-ups will be posted soon.  To work at a meet, you MUST be registered as an official AND, for all positions EXCEPT Timer, you MUST have taken the clinic for the job.

October 15, 2023 - LAC - Fall Startup Time Trial

November 4, 2023 - LAC - November Time Trial

November 23, 2023 - LAC - Nothers - Development Time Trial

November 24 - 26, 2023 - LAC - Nothers Fall Invitational

December 16, 2023 - LAC - Holiday Time Trial

Clinics:  I do not typically host clinics prior to the first time trial but I do a bunch between then and Nothers in late November.  In the meantime there are some online clinics available for anyone who has an officials account.  There will be more to come on that later.  A session credit is given for each clinic taken the FIRST time except you must take BOTH the Intro Clinic AND the Safety Marshal clinics to get one session credit.  Refresher clinics do not get a session credit but you are always welcome to take refreshers!

Nothers Meet Management: I have a Meet Manager for Nothers and I think I am set for three  of the Time Trials above but I believe I still need a Meet Manager for the Nothers development Time Trial and We could have you as part of the management team for Nothers.  Both are great way to get a taste of what Meet Management is about.  If interested, please let me know.  You need to have the Meet Manager Clinic to be part  of Meet Management.

If you have any officiating questions please contact Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS

To check your session credit balance - log on to your LAC account on the website, go to "my account" and click the "service hours" tab to view your account summary. Any questions contact Donna at [email protected]

Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets.  The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".

Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.

Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.

New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).

Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.

Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.

The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
