CONGRATULATIONS to all swimmers on some GREAT racing in Brantford at the Western Region Championships. There were many personal bests, lots of swimmers qualifying for their first-ever championship finals sessions, several swimmers re-qualifying for provincial or junior national meets, 31 different swimmers achieved 65 top 3 individual finishes (24G-25S-16B) and, best of all, there was lots of TEAM SPIRIT! For our older (13&over) swimmers, a measure of performance reliability that the coaches like to see is the ability to swim faster in the finals session than you did in the preliminaries - we are very pleased to report that of the 73 finals swims we had on Sat&Sun nites, 65 of them were faster, for an impressive 89% conversion rate! This does not mean you should swim slow in the preliminaries...FAST in prelims, FASTER in finals is the objective, and we certainly achieved that this weekend. More than anything else this is a very reliable indicator of fitness. You should know that over the course of a 3 day championship meet, you will swim upwards of 15KM, including w-ups, w-downs, prelim & final races. You need to have good fitness to sustain top performances throughout a competition...we do, and we did! Another thing on finals that we are pleased to report, on Sun nite we were perfect on the "SWIM FASTER" scale, 22 finals swims, 22 faster swims! That certainly supports one of our LAC credos: "FINISH STRONG!"
The following were our medal-winning swimmers in individual events:
LEAH MAYER: 3G-1S; EMMA YOUNG:2G-2S; MATT KOVACS: 2G-1S-1B; PARKER GARROD: 2G-1S; ANDREW O'BRIEN: 2G-1S; MARK GILMOUR: 2G-2B; VINCENT CAPPA: 2G; WILLIAM STEWART: 1G-3S; NICHOLAS MITCHELL: 1G-2S; AIDEN RIECKENBRAUCK: 1G-2S; JESSICA ALLEN: 1G-1S; GABRIELLE DAGASSO: 1G-1S; SHAYNA LEWIS: 1G-1B; JOSEF LISKA-GUZMAN: 1G-1B; ELLIE WONG: 1G-1B; NICOLE JENSEN: 1G; CAMILLE RYAN: 2S-1B; DOMININ CAPPA: 1S-2B; KEXIN MENG: 1S-1B; ROBBIE BROWN, JON EVANS, BRITTANY LEWIS, TAYLOR MacMILLAN, ERICKA MASSE, BRANDON RYU: all 1S; JOSIE ANDRES, ELGAR GONG, JESSE LIU, EMMA MAURER, SETH RIECKENBRAUCK, MATTHEW WILLIAMS: all 1B.
