HOLLANDIA COACHES REPORT

Good work by everyone...over 450 personal bests, not including those swims that were "first-evers" for our newer swimmers, first-time qualifiers at every level (Regional, Provincial, and National - see above), 157 top 8 finishes, and from those came 62 medals: 22 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze.  CONGRATULATIONS to our medalists:

Robert Wise: 4G-1S-1B; William Stewart 3G-2S-1B; Jenna Roman 3G-2S; Jake Armstrong 3G-1B; Matt Roman 2G-4S-1B; Camille Ryan 2G-1S-1B; Shayna Lewis 2G-1B; Emily Williams 1G-3S-1B; Margaret Macneil 1G-1B; Richard Hortness 1G; Aiden Riekenbrauck 1S-2B; Parker Garrod 1S-1B; Gabrielle Dagasso, Alexander Pedda, Brandon Ryu, Victoria Smith, and Kristine Walker 1S; Vincent Cappa and Emma Young 2B; Dominic Cappa, Ericka Masse, Leah Mayer, Ryan Mitchell and Paige Walker 1B.

This was our 2nd long course (50m) competition of the season; a word to those of you who perhaps think you didn't do as well as you would have liked: do NOT compare your long course times to your short course (25m) times!  While there is a conversion factor that can be used to compare 25m and 50m times, it is math, it is not the physical performance, on the day, under whatever conditions apply.  Many swimmers (and parents) fall into this 25m/50m comparison trap.  Long course swimming involves much more...well...swimming, less turning (fewer opportunities to "rest" on the wall) and requires more clean swimming fitness.  Be thankful that you have some 50m training opportunities, take advantage of them, and get right back to work.  Even when you are practicing in the shorter 25m pool, try to elevate your game to another level during the long course (50m) season, it can be your opportunity to get ahead!  If you are able to duplicate your short course (25m) times in the long course (50m) season, that is a good achievement, and an elusive one at the top levels.

Finally, a big THANK YOU as always to our meet management team and all of our parents, without whom we wouldn't get such a great opportunity to practice racing!

CONGRATULATIONS to Joe, Matt and Brayden for their swims in Charlotte at the U.S. Grand Prix.  Joe finished 8th in the 100FL, and helped Team Ontario to 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 4x100 Medley and FR relays, while Matt swam in the B final of the 400IM and along with Brayden in the C final of the 200IM.  The U.S. Grand Prix meets are faster than the Canadian National Championships, and are a good testing ground for our top swimmers.

HOLLANDIA THANK YOU

Thank you to all the people who helped make the 20th annual Hollandia Long Course meet a success.  We had about 640 swimmers attend this meet from all over Ontario.   It is a big undertaking to run a meet of this size, and as usual our loyal LAC parents and friends  stepped up to the plate to make us look good.  Well done everyone. Have a well deserved rest and we will see you outdoors at Hauch.

Margaret Marshall, Meet Manager, Hollandia

SUMMER TRAINING SCHEDULES

Have been posted in our Schedules  section.  Please remember that the start-up date of May 30 is tentative, and depends on the availability of the Thames Park Pool at that time.  If Thames is unavailable on that date all regular schedules shall remain in effect.

The statements will also include charges body pump/flow where applicable. As always, feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions about the postings on your account. For any questions requiring more than a simple e-mail, please see me at the pool or e-mail me so we can make arrangements to speak over the phone. Thanks...Steve

FROM THE CANTEEN COMMITTEE

A huge thank-you to all who helped out in canteen this weekend. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Carmen Riekenbrauck, Cindy Jensen, and Elizabeth Neill.

Thank-you to those families who brought in their food donations, they are much appreciated.  We rely heavily on these donations in order to prepare food for the officials/volunteers and for the selling canteen. Unfortunately we were missing over 20% of requested canteen donations this meet, which means last minute changes to the menu plan and food purchases.

We regret that we cannot provide meals for those working only one session or for swimmers. At the end of the Sunday dinner however, everyone is welcome to any food and drinks remaining.
