COACHES REPORT

WELCOME BACK everyone! We trust that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer, and also trust that you are all ready and eager to have fun as you start next week on the long road toward your 2018-19 goals.

The first few weeks of the year are always an exciting time, as you get re-acquainted with your swimming family, some of whom you might not have seen for a while. Enjoy this, but at the same time make sure when you are in the water and the coaches are directing you, you are giving them your undivided attention. Listen with your ears and your eyes. Pay attention to your coaches and their instructions, make sure you understand exactly how the stroke drills are to be done, and focus on the basics: ready position on the wall, push-offs, streamlines, underwater kicks, and head & body position.Try to channel all of your energy and enthusiasm that has been "cooped up" since mid-July into focussing on your technique and the small details and developing great practice habits. If you can do this now, good technique and the tiny details and great habits will become almost automatic later.

The coaches are all looking forward to a great year. STRONG ALONE - UNSTOPPABLE TOGETHER - GO LAC GO!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Hello again to returning LAC families and a big welcome to brand new LAC families for the 2018/19 season!  I am Mark Lukings, one of two Club Officials Chairs who are in charge of making sure that we have all of the officials that are required to run our meets.  This season we have a LAC hosted meet schedule that is similar to last year with the same 4 Time Trials, our 5 Invitationals and we are again hosting the Western Region Short Course Championship.

To support all of these LAC hosted meets I will be scheduling officiating clinics in October and November to start preparing the officials that we will need.  For those of you who are new to swimming, this is a sport that requires a lot of participation and volunteerism to run the competitions.

I encourage new LAC families to get started by coming out to the Introduction to Swimming Officiating clinics that will be offered in October and/or November.  In this clinic we cover session credits, the basics of officiating and the specifics of the first position, timing.  This is the clinic that is mentioned in the registration material as being required for all new LAC families.  It, like all of the clinics, is also available for anyone wanting a refresher.  I am looking forward to meeting you there!  Watch the newsletter for specifics on the clinic dates as they become available.  I should have the first few scheduled in the next couple of weeks. Please make it a habit to read the newsletter each week so that you receive all of the information that is important to our LAC families.

Instructions on the registration process for swim officials will be provided next week.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes an introductory club meeting, participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrolment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.
