COACHES REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on some good racing at Saturday's time trial, especially those of you who swam your first-ever 200m race! Special congratulations to first time Regional Championship qualifier Aliyah Baron and first time Provincial Festival qualifiers Baris Kartoglu and Tolga Kartoglu.

If you are a swimmer with big dreams, read on - from YourSwimBook.com and Oliver Poirier Leroy here are two thoughts on how you can practice even better tomorrow:

1) WRITE OUT A FEW THINGS YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR: this is one of the best stress-busting techniques out there, and is something we can lean on mid-week when we need to pull our heads above water to get some perspective. Writing down a few things you are grateful for will help emphasize the positives in your life, give you a broader view of the struggles you might be having, and help you sleep better. For best effect write out your little gratitude list just before bed to help clear your brain of anxiety. Speaking of bed and sleep...

2) GO TO BED EARLIER! The best supplement for your training is NOT that free-range whey protein or over-priced Xtremme Mega Gainz gel from the local GNC store. It's that favourite pillow you know you have, and those soft warm flannel sheets. Hands down the best supplement you'll ever have for your training is a few extra hours of sleep. Not only will you recover more deeply with added rest, but you will improve brain function (meaning you'll be more focussed and attentive in training tomorrow) and it will also give your immune system a boost. AND, if you're like most people, you'll also be 16% less of a cranky-pants with an extra 1-2 hours of sleep tonight!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Nothers Fall Invitational - Senior Officials needed!:  I have not had as many non-LAC Senior Official volunteers this year so I need LAC officials to step up.  Right now, the only sessions that are fully covered are the finals sessions.  The Friday sessions, especially the first two sessions, and the Sunday afternoon session are particularly in need.  Senior Officials include: Referee, Starter, Clerk of Course (and Marshals for the shallow end and finals), Chief Timekeeper (and assistant for the shallow end),  Chief Finish Judge, Recorder/Scorer, Electronics Operator and Stroke Judges.  To sign up for Senior positions at our meets you email the Competition Coordinator, with the meets, sessions, and positions that you would like to work.  I am the Competition Coordinator for the Nothers Fall Invitational.  Please let me know NOW if you would like to try the jobs that go with the Senior Official clinics that you have been taking. To qualify, you must have the clinic before DOING the job, meaning, if you are taking the clinic this week, that is acceptable.  Marshals do not necessarily require a clinic although Clerk of course would be beneficial.

Officials Clinics: The final two clinics prior to Nothers are now scheduled and signups are posted.  These are the last clinics in 2018 unless I schedule a Meet Manager or a Referee clinic.  Here are the upcoming clinics:

Starter (The person who says “Take your marks!”): Friday, November 16, 7:00 to 9:00 PM, CGAC, Pool Level Meeting Room, maximum enrolment 14 students.

Clerk of the Course: Saturday, November 17, 7:00 to 9:00 AMCGAC, Pool Level Meeting Room, maximum enrolment 14 students.

Timing System Operator: This is one position that is learned by on the job training only.  This is a great job.  You are positioned with a great view, you don’t get wet, and it is interesting.  Yes, there is a computer involved, but if you can operate a cell phone, this is far less complex.  If you are interested in learning this job, email me to let me know.  This was the first officiating job that I tried, yes, at Nothers.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrollment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.
