COACHES REPORT

As we head into the Nothers Invitational this weekend, here are ten behaviours the coaches will be very happy to see on display from LAC athletes:

1) punctuality: 5 minutes early is on time, see the start times below!  2) effective and complete warm-up - check with your coach 3) talking with your coach before and after each race  4) taking something good from each swim, and something to be worked on for the next one, and remembering that the end result, while we strive for it to be our best ever, does not need to be a personal best to be a good swim  5) swimming one race at a time  6) staying calm, confident and positive, and keeping things in perspective, regardless of the outcome  7) staying properly hydrated and fueled throughout the meet  8) wearing your LAC bathing cap and LAC t-shirt - if you have them let's wear navy on Friday, royal on Saturday, and this year's orange t-shirt on Sunday  9) demonstrating great sportsmanship ("nice race", or "good job", or a handshake to the swimmer on either side of you at the end of the race)  10) at all times showing respect and gratitude to all volunteer officials (with a sincere "thank you" when and where necessary)

If you are able to demonstrate these behaviours throughout the weekend, the coaches will consider your meet a success. And a polite reminder to all LAC parents, unless you are acting in an official "on-deck" capacity during your child's swim session, you are asked to support your child to the very best of your ability from the upper level viewing gallery! The coaches thank you in advance for your cooperation.

RACE SMART. RACE TOUGH. HAVE FUN. GO LAC GO!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Nothers Fall Invitational – Minor Officials Badly Needed!:  We are very short on minor officials for Nothers.  We need your help!  This year we are starting the shallow end from the middle bulkhead and that means the Strokes and Turns officials at the shallow start end CANNOT help with timing.  The well-known ‘short sessions’ are mostly full, as are a few others, but things are not looking good in several other sessions.  We cannot run the Friday distance sessions or the Sunday morning or afternoon sessions with the number of officials currently signed up.  Every unfilled position reduces the quality of the meet.  We really need your help.  Note that if you wanted to help in a specific session and it was full, we have others, but also keep an eye on those full sessions.  Sometimes people remove their sign-up.  Also, sometimes we get last minute cancellations.  If you are going to be at the meet anyway, bring along you officials wear and check in with the minor official coordinator to see if they need help.  Those offers are always appreciated.  If you are at the meet and you hear that we are looking for minor officials, at that point we don’t care what you are wearing!  Please step up!

Nothers Senior Officials – Thank you to everybody who has offered to help as senior officials at Nothers.  You, along with a bunch of visiting officials, has allowed me to just fill all of the required positions for all sessions except 1.  We will not have stroke judges on Sunday afternoon.  We are very tight here as well so I am holding my breath hoping I have no last minute cancellations!

Congratulations to Joanna Makinson on achieving her goal of becoming a Level 3 official!  Joanna reached this milestone in October when she taught an Introduction to Swimming Officiating clinic.  I was waiting to present this at Nothers but she will be out of town this weekend.  Joanna no longer has swimmers with LAC but she has joined an elite group who continue on helping in the sport even after their swimmers move on.  Thank you Joanna!

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrollment and may be subject to change.

There is a session credit FAQ under the "Parent Info" tab under "Session Credits.
