COACHES REPORT

Lots of LAC'ers competing this weekend, everybody race smart, race tough and have fun. Those of you going to the Team Showdown in Brantford and the Ontario Junior International in Toronto, the uniform rotation is: Fri ROYAL, Sat NAVY, Sun ORANGE.

As we move through our final preparation for the fall championships, remember when you're at the meet, in order to succeed you must be willing to D.A.R.E.:

Determination - winners refuse to quit or accept defeat; they demonstrate persistence and the willingness to get back up. Determined athletes are relentless in their efforts to improve and succeed.

Aggressiveness - winners make things happen instead of waiting for them to happen, They take charge and force action. They assert themselves strongly and make their presence felt.

Responsibility - winners accept total responsibility for their actions. They recognize their own mistakes and what to do to change and improve, They admit errors and will not blame others or make excuses.

Emotional control - winners stay calm and cool, adjust quickly and are not upset by bad breaks or bad calls. They focus on the 2 things they can control: their own EFFORT and their own ATTITUDE.

PICK-UP & DROP-OFF REMINDER for CGAC

Parents (and swimmers): the CGAC staff asks, as do the Board and coaches of LAC, that you please avoid parking directly in front of the CGAC main entrance to pick up or drop off your swimmer(s). There needs to be room for two-way traffic at all times in this area. At times the congestion at the CGAC entrance has been significant enough that cars trying to enter are backed up on Wonderland Road, and those trying to leave are unable to do so. There is also a very real safety concern for children exiting and entering the building, with multiple vehicles blocking sightlines for both pedestrians and drivers. If the pick-up/drop-off area is occupied, we ask that you please continue through to the parking lot and make arrangements for your swimmer(s) to meet you where you are. It has also been brought to our attention that the disability parking spots are being occupied by people who should not be using them. Without a disability parking pass, these spots are unavailable. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a safe CGAC parking lot.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

LAC Holiday Time Trial – Thank you To everyone who has signed up! – getting this done this early is a real weight off.  If you tried to sign-up but it was full before you could, keep an eye on the sign-ups because sometimes people drop out.

Meet Job Sign-Ups: The ONLY position that you can work before taking the clinic is TimeKeeper.  Please do not sign up for Strokes and Turns if you have not taken the clinic.  Save us the effort of having to remove your sign-up and emailing you to explain why.

Team ShowDown - December 14 - 16, 2018 – Be aware that there are no session credits for working at meets not hosted by LAC, but officiating at away meets can certainly beat sitting in the stands and you get to meet some new officials from other clubs.  Many of you will be there anyway so here is a message from the Team Showdown Competition Coordinator:

The Brantford Aquatic Club is in preparations to play host to LAC as well as to many others from around the province at this year's edition of Team Showdown at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre from December 14 - 16, 2018.

Please consider working on the pool deck with us in officiating in an exciting atmosphere as we see Ontario swimmers compete for points and top honours.  If interested in officiating, please contact Crosby Gibson at [email protected] with your officiating credentials, session availability, as well as your desired position(s) on the deck.

LAC 12 & Under Celebration and the January 13 and Over Time Trial – January 19 and 20, 2019 - Senior Officials Needed -  This will be our first meet of the New Year and will give people an opportunity to hone up their skills to help out at the WOSA Short Course Champs which follows two weeks later.  If you would like to help at one of these 3 sessions then please email the Competition Coordinator, Denise McDonald at [email protected] with “12 & Under“ in the subject and the session(s) and the positions that you are interested in working, in the body.

London Glider - Special Olympic Swim Meet! – Sunday, January 20, 2019 – 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM – Hopefully you will already be there for the Sunday session of the 12 and Under Celebration, but even if you are not, why not hang out at CGAC for the afternoon and help out at this great meet.  If you are willing to help out in any officiating capacity, please contact Patrick Moran at [email protected] with the jobs that you are qualified for and willing to work at this meet.

WOSA Short Course Championship –January 31 to February 3, 2019 -  Senior Officials Needed – If you would like to be a senior official at the WOSA SC Champs that we are hosting this year then please email me with “WOSA” in the subject and the sessions and positions that you would like to work in the body of the email.  Really, it is not too soon to start thinking about this meet!

Official Clinics – For those who are waiting to take the clinics that they missed in the last round, I will be hosting more clinics in the new year in support of the two 2019 meets listed above.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrollment and may be subject to change.

The Session Credit Policies are posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website.
