COACHES REPORT

There have been many Hollandia Invitationals, and we think it's fair to say that in terms of swimmer performance, from our youngest 10/under first-time Hollandia participant right up to the very impressive swims posted by our World Championships team member Maggie, this was one of the best Hollandias in memory.

A more detailed summary will appear in the "News" section of the website but for now special shout-outs to the SIXTEEN, that's right, not a typo, SIXTEEN first-time qualifiers: WOSA Champs - Kamryn Bordin, Minjin Choi, Simon Drolet, Jonah Eagleson, Zachary Kostadopoulos, Thomas Krause, Nicole Maar, Bradley Marlow, Grier Stokely, Karen Xian, Mengdi Yong; Provincial Festival - Kyle Ball, Grace Phillips; Provincial OYJ Sophia Yuan; Provincial OSC Hannah Burns; and Canadian Junior Championship qualifier Niamh O'Leary. And more props to first-time all-time Top 10 Performer Alex Beckett in the 11/12 girls 50FR (2nd all-time!) and club record-setter Jacob Seddon in the 11/12 boys 50FL.

Thanks to the meet reporting from our AMAZING Meet Manager Mark Lukings (with tons of enthusiatic help from first-time co-Meet Manager Christie Thomas) we can also tell you that from 1283 swims there were 909 personal bests, for a 71% pb conversion rate, which is EXCELLENT, and LAC swimmers collected a total of 221 medals (79 gold - 80 silver - 62 bronze) and had another 210 finishes in the top 8. Um, WOW!

And finally, from the "intangibles" side of the ledger, what great team support and team spirit...whether between teammates on the pool deck or behind the blocks, or volunteers helping each other learn the ropes and fill all the positions, to those in the stands cheering on every LAC'er, whether in a race for first or a race for seventh!

GREAT JOB EVERYONE! What a great team effort, and what FUN! Onward and upward we go!

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Hollandia Spring Invitational – Thank you!:  LAC hosted another awesome meet this past weekend!  We had many compliments and thanks from Swimmers, Coaches, Parents, and visiting officials!  This result would not have been possible without the help all of our volunteers from LAC, from visiting teams, and from some people whose team was not even at our meet but just know that LAC meets are a great learning opportunity.  Congratulations to Christie Thomas on the result of our partnership in managing this meet.  This was a pretty big meet to pick to start off with and lots of learning was the result.  I am looking forward to working with Christie again in the future.  Everything came together splendidly, and everyone’s help was critical, but I especially want to mention all of the supporting committees.  It is a huge comfort to a meet manager when these committees are so very self-sufficient.  Thank you to the committee leaders and their teams!  I did have a special note from an OAK coach to “The lady on Lane 8” during the Thursday distance session.  One of his swimmers was blown away by how great you were to him!  Well I am not sure who that was but these kind of great impressions keep teams wanting to come back so thank you to everyone who made the experience a pleasant one for each of the 800 swimmers at our meet!

Dr. Paul Hauch Invitational (July 6 and 7):  Mark your calendars now.  This is a fun way for everyone to end the season!  Yes, we are going to need officials and other help.  Watch for more information in upcoming newsletters.

Officiating Merchandise: I have had a few people express an interest in Swim Canada Rule Books and occasionally I have people ask about name tags.  If you would like to buy a rule book ($10.00) or a name tag ($9.00), please email me and that can be arranged.

If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected]

LAC SESSION CREDITS

Club hosted meets help to reduce membership fees by 20-25% as well as reducing travel costs by attending fewer out-of-town meets. To ensure the Club has sufficient resources to host meets, most LAC swim families are required to work a minimum of 22 sessionsduring club hosted meets (please see below for exceptions). These sessions may be worked through officiating or working at the club’s food canteen, awards or other positions. Any unfulfilled session credits will be billed at a rate of $40.00 per session to the swim family’s Swimmer Account at the end of the season. If a swimmer leaves the club after March 1st then the prorated unworked session credits will be billed to their final statement. Please note that this is not meant to be a “fundraiser” but rather an incentive to participate in the running of home meets. Swim families may receive up to 5 donated session credits from another club family to complete their credits, however any more than the 5 donated session credits must be approved by the board. Session commitments are waived for first year swim families with no prior competitive swim club affiliation, as well as for introductory and post-secondary students training full time with the club and for varsity swimmers, although assistance during swim meets from these groups is greatly appreciated.  First year families ARE required to fulfill the LAC orientation program. This includes participating in an Introductory to Swimming clinic during the swim season and a follow up “on-deck” mentoring session.

*** Families of Development swimmers who are not in their first year of competitive swimming who do not have a swimmer in another level are required to fulfill only 11 of the assigned session credits.***

*The number of session credits will be reviewed by the board in the fall upon club enrollment and may be subject to change.

The Session Credit Policies are posted under the “Parent Info" tab On the LAC website.
