Magnus Batara and Nicholaas Dekker, after standout performances this spring, have gained attention at the national level. Magnus Batara has been named to this year's Canadian Para Pan-Pacific Championship Team. Pan-Pacs is the third biggest meet in the world for able bodied and para-swimmers alike. Batara qualified for the team with his second place 100 Breaststroke performance at the Paralympic Spring Nationals in Minnesota with a stunning 8.4 second time drop, only one second outside the Paralympic Trials time cut. Building on the momentum of a winning spring, the Rapids took top team honors at the Mies Schootman Invitational at UBC last weekend. This weekend, Magnus Batara competed in the CAN-AM Paralympic Spring National Meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Magnus had an amazing meet, posting 100% best times. Batara finished all six swims in the top six, three of which were top three finishes (100 BR, 100 FLY, 200 IM). The real show was Magnus's 100 Breaststroke (1:17.90), where he finished second, moving up several spots from his seed time and dropping 8.4 seconds overall.  We are certainly all very proud of Magnus, and wish him a safe and victorious return!

  Richmond Rapids 1ST Annual Auction   Donations, Acquisitions and Sponsorship!!! On May 7th and 8th, 2011, at the West Coast Open we will stage our biggest Rapids fund-raiser of the year!!  Our goal in raising money is to maintain the excellent standards our swim club provides. Last weekend at UBC, the Richmond Rapids competed with some of the country's best swimmers at the TAS BC Senior Championships, the Rapid's first long course meet of the season. To qualify, swimmers must have had a minimum of 15 year old AAA times. Though swimming fatigued after a long taper and a demanding AAA's the previous weekend, there were many best times and second swims. Most notably, Jeanelle Aldaba broke two Rapids team records. The Rapids returned this week from Victoria having swum one of the best meets in recent memory. Surviving frustrating disqulifications, frustrating just-outside-of-finals swims, and demanding schedules, the Rapids came back hard every session with a fantastic attitude and work ethic, showing their training off. After being in 9th place on Friday, our athletes outraced their competition to finish 5th place in the team rankings, out of 39 teams. At day 2 and 3 of the BC AA Championships this past weekend, our athletes continued to perform very well.  Overall our swimmers made  this AA Championships one of our most succesful AA's to date.  On Saturday night our relays were simply outstanding!  Our 12 & unders girls and boys both won gold while our 13-14 girls earned the silver and the boys won the bronze in very tight races.  The Rapids were dominate on Saturday winning multilpe events if not placing  in the top 3.  A swim of the...

Today at the first day of the BC AA Championships our team showed up and stepped up big time! The prelims saw a number of great swims including 3 new BC AAA Championship qualifiers. Emma Letts, 13, started it off by breaking :30 in the 50 FR to make the standard. Nicole Welsh,13, destroyed her previous best in the 200 Fly to make her AAA cut.
