Aloha and welcome to Hawaiian Swimming!

Hawaiian Swimming is the Local Swim Committee (LSC) of USA Swimming that governs the sport of swimming in the geographical area of the state of Hawaii. Hawaiian Swimming is comprised of approximately 30 group members (clubs or organizations) throughout the islands of Hawaii, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu. There are approximately 2000 USA Swimming registered age group swimmers (5-18) in the state of Hawaii. Please refer to the "Team Directory" link for a list Hawaiian Swimming swim clubs on each island.

The objective and primary purpose of Hawaiian Swimming is the education, instruction, and training of individuals to develop and improve their capabilities in the sport of swimming. Hawaiian Swimming promotes swimming for the benefit of swimmers of all ages and abilities, in accordance with the standards, rules, regulations, policies and procedures of FINA, USA Swimming, and Hawaiian Swimming.

USA Swimming

USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. We promote the culture of swimming by creating safe and healthy opportunities for athletes and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events and education. Our membership is comprised of swimmers of every age and ability, all the way up to the Olympic Team, as well as coaches, officials and volunteers. 


USA Swimming is responsible for selecting and training teams for international competition, including the Olympic Games, and administer competitive swimming in accordance with the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act.

Local Swimming Committee (LSC):

601.1 The Local Swimming Committee (LSC) is a separate and independent corporation to whom USA Swimming has delegated certain governing and supervisory responsibilities within the geographic boundaries designated by USA Swimming. Each LSC shall have jurisdiction over the sport of swimming as delegated to it in the USA Swimming Rules & Regulations to conduct swimming programs consistent with the policies and procedures of USA Swimming and to sanction, approve, observe, oversee and conduct on behalf of USA Swimming competitive swimming events within the LSC boundaries.

601.2 Each LSC qualifies under USA Swimming’s group exemption as a tax-exempt organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and as an organization described in Sections 170(c)(2) and 2522(a) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code that may accept contributions, bequests, and gifts deductible for federal income and estate and gift tax purposes, respectively.

 

Hawaiian Swimming LSC – HISI is the LSC incorporated in the State of Hawaii. Its boundaries are the State of Hawaii. (603.2) It is part of the Western Zone (605.1). The LSC has group and individual members – the group members being the club residing with its geographical boundaries and individual members being residents within the geographical area who are members of USA Swimming or other FINA organizations.

The LSC is governed by the House of Delegates which consists of its Group Member representatives, the Board of Directors, Non-Athlete At-Large House Members and Athlete At-Large House Members appointed.

The Board of Directors, made up of elected and/or appointed committee chairs, coordinators and representatives of HISI, and at-large members, governs the everyday operations and policies of the LSC, subject to oversight from the House of Delegates as outlined in the Bylaws.

The Committees (e.g., Executive Committee, Age Group, Senior, Governance, Finance, Registration, Technical Planning, Athletes, Officials) established in the Bylaws and by action of either or both the House of Delegates and Board of Directors implement policies in the programming of the LSC in order to achieve the mission and vision of Hawaiian Swimming.
