Parent Code of Conduct

As a USA Swimming team, we recognize that each child is unique, with individual strengths, development paths, and responses to training. We ask all parents to avoid comparing their child with others, allowing each swimmer the freedom to grow at their own pace.

Supporting Your Athlete’s Independence

Parents, please allow our coaches to guide your athlete's journey and provide the space needed for your child to develop self-management skills essential for swimming and life.

Parent Expectations

  1. Positive Support and Involvement

    • Participate in a positive manner by cheering on our swimmers and volunteering to time at meets or serve on the board.
  2. Respect Training Sessions

    • Avoid interfering with training sessions, as this presents a liability risk and detracts from the learning environment.
  3. Keep Access Areas Clear

    • Please keep the patio clear for swimmers to move freely to and from the pool.
  4. Respect Roles

    • Allow coaches to coach and officials to officiate.
    • Never compare your swimmer with others.
    • Performance goals are set by the coaching team with input from the swimmer, if appropriate; please refrain from setting performance goals with your child.
  5. Be a Fan, Not a Fanatic

    • Remember that this experience is about growth, enjoyment, and learning.
    • What happens on the pool deck stays on the pool deck.

Parent Code of Conduct Agreement

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to establish clear and consistent expectations for parent behavior, supporting a positive environment for all athletes. As a parent or guardian, I acknowledge the growth and developmental benefits that my child gains through participation on the team. I understand that it is essential to respect the coaching staff’s authority and to foster an environment of trust and sportsmanship.

I agree to the following:

  • Demonstrate Respect
I will set a positive example by showing sportsmanship, respect, and courtesy to team members, coaches, competitors, officials, parents, and all facilities at all times.

  • Be Involved and Supportive
I will participate by volunteering, observing practices, cheering at meets, and engaging in respectful discussions with my child and their coach regarding their progress.

  • Avoid “Sideline Coaching”
I will refrain from coaching my child from the stands during practices or meets.

  • Uphold Positive Communication
I will not criticize, name-call, or use abusive language or gestures toward coaches, officials, volunteers, or swimmers.

  • Respect Officials’ Decisions
I will respect the integrity and authority of the officials.

  • Follow Communication Protocol
I will direct my concerns first to Coach Adam; if further discussion is needed, I will then contact the Board of Directors.

By agreeing to this Code of Conduct, I understand that failure to adhere to these expectations may result in disciplinary actions, including possible dismissal from the team.
