Toronto - An amazing first day for BYST! Four medals were won. The boys relay, comprising of Ryan Jarvis, Rafik Jiwa, Alexander Grant and Isaac Jarvis, took the gold on the 4 x 50m freestyle relay with a time of 1:58.11. Toronto - The Sunday evening session was very grueling, but the BYST athletes persevered and managed to get some best times. The team finished 12th overall with 116 points. After defeating 10th place Newmarket in the previous three relays, the boys team of Ryan Jarvis, Rafik Jiwa, Alexander Grant and Isaac Jarvis were out touched in the 4 x 100m medley relay. On the last day of competition, both BYST athletes stepped up with some big swims. Talia Pappalardo swam extremely well in the 200m individual medley, equalling her personal best time. Unfortunately, she was disqualified due to a non-simultaneous touch on the breaststroke to freestyle turn. As the meet proceeds, results just keep getting better! Talia Pappalardo dropped nearly two seconds on her best event, the 200m backstroke. She posted an outstanding time of 2:21.92, which placed her 16th overall and she currently holds the spot of first alternate for finals. Day two began with an incredible 100m backstroke by Shakil Jiwa. He managed to drop over two seconds to break the minute barrier by clocking in at 59.37. The time slotted him into 17th overall, an alternate position for finals. He also raced the 50m freestyle and came in at a very fast 24.66, good enough for 25th overall. An amazing first day! Shakil Jiwa dropped over half a second in his first race the 50m backstroke. He finished 18th overall a time of 28.26. Talia Pappalardo also raced the 50m backstroke for her first event. She dropped 0.73 to clock in at 31.07 and placed 23rd overall. Jiwa has two events tomorrow, the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Pappalardo has the 100m backstroke. More best times are expected!

Montreal – Day one of Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships is on the horizon.  Shakil Jiwa, 15, and Talia Pappalardo, 14, will be competing in their first event, the 50m backstroke.  This is the first time at such a high competition for both athletes.  On Friday both will compete in the 100m backstroke, while Jiwa also has the 50m freestyle.  On Saturday, Jiwa swims the 100m freestyle, while Pappalardo races the 200m backstroke.  On Sunday, the last day of competition, Pappalardo has the 200m Individual Medley and the grueling 800m freestyle,...
