Partner Classes

Practice What You Learn

After learning material and concepts sufficient to your level of understanding, you or your child can then pair up with other students ready to work on the same information. Here, students can address the application of what they learned and put it into practice. Every student has an opportunity to ask questions and get answers that help both partners gain clearer perspective on their material.

Many students, adults and children alike, make new friends and develop stronger relationships built on mutual trust and respect. One of the top benefits of partner training is that it is a transition between individual and group training.

Individual thought is of self. Group thought is of everyone else. Partner involves both internal and external awareness. It fosters trust, respect, and communication. These principles are key to long-lasting relationships.

Experience Is Key

Students who can see the possibilities and actually experience a setting where these principles work can have the tools to assess where and how the problems exist in their everyday lives. Awareness helps them to improve situations.

Physically, Partner Training provides every student with hands-on understanding of how to gauge distance and time of an attack. They learn how to absorb an impact or how to safely fall. They test their limits in flexibility, accuracy, and conditioning. They learn the true nature of contact. This is essential for all ages and abilities. People can clearly define their personal space and comfort, and know when and when not to allow someone to breach it. They will know how to defend and protect themselves, preventing uncomfortable situations. They will be encouraged and pushed to use their voice and communicate their thoughts.

Group Classes

Focus and Awareness

Every week, students train on core material during their personal training. When students work out in group, training is focused on reaction, situational awareness, speed, and high energy workouts. No longer is the group setting a place where you have to watch other people to learn, or try to catch up to. Students are taught to find the answers by paying attention to instruction and by utilizing memory skills.

Groups by Age

All groups are divided by ages and by adults’ ranks as well. Group classes are designed on the general abilities of its participating members. Class is built from simple steps at the beginning and built up to complex steps requiring multitasking, but in a format which everyone can easily follow. Novice and experienced students are placed together in the group classes, yet each will individually receive the challenges presented in group class.

You and your child will definitely get a workout mentally and physically without negative competition and inconsistency.

Please remember, all group sessions at 8 Hands Martial Arts Center for IMA Instruction are different from one class to the next. There is no repetitive format and although missing classes will be a missed opportunity, it will not set you behind everyone else. This program is designed to work all aspects of training together and provide variety and challenge for every member.

Individual Classes/One-On-One Instruction

Learn Multiple Types of Martial Arts

Learning multiple types of martial arts is most beneficial. One-on-one instruction is the first part of core instruction, and is required for every student. Instruction is based on the individual and is intended to build a unique foundation for each student. Individual training allows every student the time they need to progress at 8 Hands Martial Arts.

Nourish Strengths More Effectively

Each student has weaknesses and strengths. Having one-on-one time with an instructor allows these areas to be addressed without making a student feel left behind or slowed down because of constant comparison or competition with others. The benefit of personalized instruction is empowerment, reducing insecurity/self-doubt. Every student trains in a friendly and supportive atmosphere gaining true confidence.

Adults

Regardless of your fitness level, your age, or your schedule, 8 Hands Martial Arts will have something for you! As an adult, we believe we know what we want; for some this is true, for others it's still being explored. Here at 8 Hands we sit down with every student and find where the path can be built from and journeyed upon. From health and fitness to self-control and awareness, we offer plenty of benefits to suit each individual. When it comes to training, learning, and growing, there is so much that can be said, but nothing says it better than there are no limits to what you can achieve, regardless of age or ability. Where ever you start, novice or experienced, in shape or in need of fitness, we will help you start, build momentum, and take off towards your dreams.

The environment at 8 Hands Martial Arts is like family. Everyone works together to build everybody’s abilities up and to challenge everyone’s development. The positive environment helps everyone focus on their own path without need for competition or fear of retaliation. Everyone has their own personal goals and yet shares in the goal of becoming a better martial artist/person. This mutual goal is center to the spirit of our family and allows for common ground in training. Everyone is welcomed, and treated how they want to be treated.

Safety is paramount! With our changing world and more people living fuller lives, we want to support longevity. Unlike most schools that focus on belts, tournaments, and being top-dog, we focus on health and wellness, skill development, and patience. We want to support the busy career person, the car-pooling parent, the retired senior, and the child with everything in front of them, who all depend on being able to sustain their well-being to do what they want every day. Whether due to work, disability, or even other sports and recreational activities, all classes allow for modification to enhance or reduce the activity level for all skill levels. Come and experience what 8 Hands Martial Arts can do for you.

Teens!

Adults are in their own world. Teens need to learn how to manage the stresses of life on their own terms. Helping these young adults to manage responsibilities to prepare, act, and accept what comes their way will help them brave the world before them. Fear is rampant in our society and fear of change is the most detrimental to the mental health teens need to thrive. Preparing students to interact within their world privately, socially, and publicly will help them to maintain balance and prevent negative stress from occurring. Teens need to manage their emotions and their thoughts constructively to prepare for college, relationships, and the careers they choose in the future.

Self Defense means many things at different stages of our lives. While every student learns physical self-defense, 8 Hands Martial Arts IMA Center specializes in teaching defense against conflict. Nothing can be more debilitating than believing you won’t know what to do if and when the time comes to act. Going beyond physical confidence and know how, to mentally and emotionally trust oneself to try, is true personal empowerment. How we internalize and perceive our world presents conflicts before us that need to be resolved. While not every conflict is negative, all do present a situation which requires action. Our goal is to help every student be pro-active in life and know when to avoid, check, address, or embrace; we want to empower everyone.

For some teens, the desire is just activity and/or fitness. We provide for every student the martial art skill and its benefits of health. While we work on all areas of improvement, behind the curtains if necessary, every student gets to let go and just enjoy the class.

Kids Classes 7-12 Years

Little Dragons

Little Dragons group is designed for kids who are ready to build coordination physically and mentally. With lots of diversity mixed with structure, they will learn to adapt to and overcome any changes to their environment, while finding security within the familiar. Learning is directed more towards developing skills necessary to balance school, home, and outside activities, which in respects to self-defense is essential to maintaining tenacity, focus, and spirit in challenging times. This prepares them for the coming of being a teenager where hormones can affect motivation and self-esteem.

With a safe, positive, and disciplined environment they develop the ability to use their voice in seeking answers and solutions. With the ability to take charge of the world around them by becoming independent, they prepare themselves for taking on responsibility through awareness, accountability, and self-directing action.

Confidence is most beneficial when coupled with humility! Our studio environment is positive, encouraging, and firm in self-awareness, providing your child a place to learn about themselves and how to overcome weaknesses, insecurity, and doubt. The interactions with the instructors and with other peers help to reinforce a “sense of self while looking in the mirror.” Every child learns to appreciate the mistakes, challenges, and trials they face, taking them to be the required steps for success and self-development. It is wonderful seeing a student laugh at a mistake and embrace the joy that comes with overcoming it.

Discipline is following directions, anticipating requirements, and being aware of the necessary steps to take ahead of time to accomplish individual goals. This is more than habit forming actions, it is mind-full action that prepares your child for any future that is set in front of them. We help to create self-discipline in every student to ensure self-accountability and personal desire, supported by appreciating what the action provides in and of itself.

Personal development goes beyond the individual and includes one’s social interactions. We provide a tri-fecta system geared towards teaching all students how to manage outside and inside influences. The one-on-one training gives students every bit of necessary time to gain clarity and understanding of lessons taught. Their partner training teaches them to engage others through cooperation and mutual respect. Our group classes develop a sense of place for the self within the “bigger picture,” teaching them how to be a part of some bigger then themselves. This system will enable your child to prepare for early adulthood.

Earning Belts

At 8 Hands Martial Arts Center for Interdisciplinary Martial Arts Instruction, our students actually earn every belt by demonstrating more than just showing material taught. They are taught to focus on learning and growing rather than the belt. Considering the average time between ranks is 9-15 months, most forget about the rank and focus on the personal achievements of refinement, technique, personal growth, and overall development. Nothing is more rewarding than to hear a students say “I want to get this form down, I know this can be improved.”

Kids Classes Up To 6 Years

Tiny Tigers

The Tiny Tigers age group is for your little go-getters to direct their energy and build focus. With plenty of exercise mixed with listening drills, they will learn to manage their energy early. Classes are geared more towards developing listening and communication skills with adults in their environment, providing one of the best tools in their little belts for self-defense. With a safe, encouraging, and disciplined environment they will develop the ability to follow directions, ask questions, and look up to those looking after them for the guidance they need. The respect they develop will go a long way into building integrity and understanding others. This will increase their social skills before hitting the school age, help with energy maintenance for activity and future sports and academics, and build confidence in maintaining necessary boundaries with others.

Confidence is an essential building block for our youth! Our studio environment is positive and encouraging, providing your child a place to learn how to handle challenging situations and different people. The interactions with the instructors and with other peers help to reinforce a “sense of self in a big world.”

Discipline for most is a matter of following instructions and getting done the things required. Here at 8 Hands Martial Arts Center for Interdisciplinary Martial Arts Instruction, we do this and much more. Discipline goes further into anticipating the things soon needed and building adaptable awareness over mere habit forming actions that prepare your child for any future that is set in front of them. We help to create self-discipline in every student to ensure self-reliability and personal motivation not dependent on a reward/punishment system.

Personal development goes beyond the individual and includes one’s social interactions. We provide a tri-fecta system geared towards teaching all students how to manage outside and inside influences. The one-on-one training gives these tiny tigers every bit of attention to foster their character and attitude towards themselves. Their partner training teaches them to respect themselves and others to understand differences and similarities without competition, by learning self-control and personal boundaries. Our group classes, smaller than most, foster compassion, effort, sincerity, and motivation in working with other kids. Together this system creates an early maturity and builds stepping stones to time management and healthy social interactions.

Earning Belts

At 8 Hands Martial Arts Center for IMA Instruction, our students actually earn every belt by demonstrating more than just comprehending material taught. They are taught to focus on learning and growing rather than the belt. Considering the average time between ranks is 9-15 months, most kids forget about the rank and focus on the personal achievements of refinement, technique, personal growth, and overall development. Nothing is more rewarding than to hear a child say, “I just kicked the bag over, that I couldn't do before!”
