GTSA took nine swimmers to compete against the best the state of Florida has to offer over this past weekend. The meet was held at The University of Florida’s O-Dome and consisted of close to 900 swimmers from Florida and beyond. GTSA swimmers competed at the Harry Meisel Championships this past weekend! Not only did they compete, but they represented our team in a wonderful fashion. The team compiled 70% best times over the two day meet. We also had three swimmers finish in the top 5 in their individual age high point races. This past weekend 28 GTSA swimmers traveled to Winter Haven, FL for the Winter Haven Stingray’s “Get Rowdy and Race Meet.” The 3 day meet was full of fantastic swims from GTSA members. The team had a best time percentage of 77% on the weekend, with countless swimmers finishing with 100% personal bests. This weekend 51 different teams sent their best senior swimmers to Indian River State College to compete in Florida's Senior Championships. After the three and a half day meet GTSA finished with 503 points, and an 8th place finish! This past weekend just under 1,000 of Florida's best swimmers, ages 8-14, convened in Gainesville for the Florida Age Group Championships (FLAG's). GTSA was well represented by 7 swimmers including; Caroline Donahue, Gabby Donahue, Reagan Flynn, Abby Kynes, Morgan Tankersley, Sarah Whitfield, and Sidney Whitfield. This past week Ally Donahue represented Trinidad & Tobago at the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation’s Championships (CCCAN). The meet was held in Costa Rica from July 2-6th. Over the five days Ally participated in multiple events, and as usual was spectacular in the breaststroke events. She kicked the week off with gold in the 100 Breaststroke (1:14.01), and backed that swim up another gold medal in the 50 Breaststroke (34.01). This past weekend GTSA swimmers looking to take advantage of their last chance to qualify for FLAG’s and Sr. Champs competed at the St. Pete Aquatics Invite. As most people were at lakes and beaches around the country for the holiday weekend these swimmers were swimming hard and earning cuts. There were multiple best times and almost as many new cuts. Caroline Donahue took advantage of the chance by achieving her first FLAG cut. Be sure to congratulate Caroline when you see her!
This past weekend GTSA joined 10 other teams at the Lightning Invitational in Largo, FL. The three day prelim and finals meet finished with GTSA in 4th place amassing 398.5 points. It was a full team effort with 22 of the 37 GTSA swimmers participating in the meet contributing individual points. Morgan Tankersley accumulated 72 points to earn high point honors for the 13-14 girls. Best times seemed to come every time a GTSA swimmer hit the pool, approximately 67% actually. This past weekend GTSA sent 12 swimmers to Jacksonville, FL to participate in Episcopal AmberJAX Midnight Madness. Although the team may have been small in numbers, GTSA’s presence was hard to miss in the results. There we 26 different times when a GTSA swimmer finished in the top 3 in an individual event, as well as 2 first place relays.
